The commissioners let the contract to construct a new iron bridge over the C.H. & D. railroad on Michigan street this week. The bridge is to have a 20-foot roadway and a six-foot walk on each side. The contract was let to the Bellefontaine Bridge and Iron Co. for $975. The old bridge will be removed to another point.

Louis Kah, Jr. has purchased the club house and fixtures of the Tawawa Fishing and Boating Club. He intends leasing it to picnic parties.

The 26th annual banquet of the Sidney High school alumni association was held in the armory last night. There were 100 persons present to enjoy the elegant menu served by C.A. Sexauer, of Piper Brothers, assisted by Jesse L. Frazier, Roy Carothers, Sam Arbuckle, and Charles Royon, Claude DeWeese, Stanley Livingston, Eugene Pence, and Will Rostron.

The following officers were elected by the members of the high school alumni association last evening: Ernest C. Amos, president; Ernest Given, vice president; Miss Raeburn Epler, secretary; and Robert Marshall, treasurer.

At the meeting of the fire department last night, George Coil, Isaac Walters, and William O’Leary, minutemen, handed in their resignations. They were accepted and Martin McNeal, John Smith and Charles Worthington were appointed in their places. ....

SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) - A 6-year-old child has died after an accidental shooting by the 3-year-old sibling in Maylene in Shelby County.
Investigators confirmed a 3-year-old child accidentally shot a 6-year-old child Monday morning around 10:00. The initial investigation indicates the child used a firearm found in the residence.
The shooting happened on Goldilocks Lane in the Maylene Community. The child was taken to Shelby Baptist Medical Center.
Shelby County Sheriff John Samaniego commented on the incident, stating, “This was a truly tragic morning for Shelby County. Our agency grieves with the family of this child.  I would like to thank the Alabaster Fire Department, County 17 Fire and Rescue, and Southeast Shelby Rescue for ....

Police continue to search for Pana man now convicted after jury trial in his absence


SHELBYVILLE — A Pana man who fled from police at speeds of more than 80 mph was found guilty by a Shelby County jury of aggravated fleeing from a peace officer.
A news release from Shelby County State’s Attorney Nichole Kroncke said the case was decided Monday and it took the jury 10 minutes to come back with their guilty verdict.
Kroncke said the charge dates to August 2, 2019, when a Shelby County Sheriff’s Department deputy tried to pull him over for a traffic stop. Mahnke, whose license was suspended, sped away. Kroncke said he blew through four stop signs in Shelbyville before fleeing towards Pana and police lost him north of Oconee. ....
