Paving, police cruiser bids awarded in Farmington


FARMINGTON Selectmen Tuesday night, May 11, awarded bids for summer paving and two police cruisers.
The $159,140 bid estimate from All-States Construction Inc. of Richmond for reclamation and paving was approved.
Other bids and the companies submitting them were $170,955 from Pike Industries Inc. of Fairfield, $226,529 St. Laurent and Son Inc. of Lewiston, $172,156 Maine-ly Paving Services LLC of Canaan and $168,442 Spencer Group Paving LLC of Turner.
Several roads are to be paved this summer in Farmington. Included are Perkins, Lincoln and a portion of Quebec street as well as Osborn and Titcomb Hill roads.

Five streets were included in the bid specifications. Lincoln and Perkins streets and the portion of Quebec street parallel to those streets are to be paved. An approximately 2,300 foot section of Osborn road will be reclaimed and paved while about 8,765 feet of Titcomb Hill Road will be paved. ....

Ex-Daytona Beach police officer charged in stabbing had changed name


Security video on March 10 shows Shane Jackson, at the time an off-duty Daytona Beach Police Officer, standing with his back to the camera facing a group of five people in front of the main entrance to the Flagler Tavern in New Smyrna Beach.
Clutched in Jackson s right hand that March 10 night was what appeared to be a knife. Although the video has no sound the group of three men and two women and Jackson appear to be talking at each other and then arguing.
What happened next that night  a stabbing put Jackson in handcuffs and facing decades in prison. ....

Area agencies policed differently under COVID-19; some are returning to normal with lessons learned


In Androscoggin County, Sheriff Eric Samson said it’s too soon to go back to prepandemic protocols.
“We are still following guidelines, as much as practical, regarding the precautionary measures taken due to the pandemic,” Samson said. “It isn’t over yet.”
His patrol officers are continuing to exercise discretion in making arrests while using recommended personal protective equipment on the job.
Yet, the numbers of inmates at Androscoggin County Jail are back up, closer to prepandemic levels, he said.
On Tuesday, the headcount was 139, he said.
“We only have so many holding cells. And if our holding fills up, we can’t send people into the (general) population, because we can’t get their test results back soon enough,” he said. ....
