Perhaps the only thing more impressive than what he accomplished was how much he had improved: “If you go back to January in training camp, he didn’t have a good camp when we put him with our top players,” explained [head coach Rick] Bowness. “He just wasn’t ready for that. He’s got to be the most improved player in the league. His improvement from [where he was] in January to where he is now, there’s absolutely no comparison. His competitive nature has improved, his intensity has improved, his play without the puck has improved.” ....

The Stars have missed the playoffs, so they’ll have a head start on the offseason. Perhaps the biggest item on the agenda is an extension for Miro Heiskanen. As a restricted free agent, the question for Heiskanen won’t be if he gets one, but rather for how long; For Heiskanen, a bridge deal would make sense given the current financial situation of the NHL and where things are headed post-COVID-19. By the lofty standards that have been set for him, Heiskanen is coming off of a relatively down year but is young and is going to get even better. Cashing out in 2024 as a 24-year-old could be the more lucrative option. ....

Schechter/NHLI via Getty Images This past Monday, Tyler Seguin finally made his season debut for the Dallas Stars, his first hockey game in a little more than seven months. To put it lightly, Seguin’s journey through rehab was not easy. For instance, Seguin’s surgeries were on his hip and later his knee, but the proximity of the two surgeries to one another ended up costing him his quad as well: “I ended up losing kind of my whole quad muscle,” Seguin said. “That’s what I’ve been dealing with the last five months, rebuilding the quad and have all the mechanics moving properly.” ....
