At noon on Tuesday, Laredo’s mayor, city manager and health authority celebrated the city’s substantial recovery from COVID-19 with a dose of apprehension, warning that it was too soon to declare victory.
This marked the seventh day that COVID-19 patients have occupied less than 15% of staffed hospital beds in Laredo, meaning local businesses can expand their capacity to 75%. A member of the Paisas criminal gang has been arrested in Zapata County for being in the country illegally, according to the U.S. Border Patrol.
Agents assigned to the Zapata Station apprehended Armando Flores-Rodriguez, a 64-year old Mexican citizen north of Zapata, Texas. Agents said they found Flores-Rodriguez walking alone in the brush near U.S. 83.
He identified himself as being a member of the Paisas prison gang, authorities said. A records check revealed an extensive criminal history that included felony convictions for aggravated assault, delivery of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance. ....
