CHED gives CNU-VSMMC at least P30M-starting grant after opening medical course program

“I am announcing now that the Commission has already authorized the giving of the grant to CNU, maybe we can start with P25 to P30 million grant to give out so they can start and we will continue assisting our medical schools,” CHED Chairman Popoy De Vera said in an online presscon on Monday, May 24.
De Vera said that CHED will also make sure that the program is adequately funded – especially for the equipment. The grant, he added, will enable CNU to “jump start its acquisition of the necessary educational equipment for their medical program.”
Meanwhile, De Vera congratulated the CNU-VSMMC for the opening of the medical program effective Academic Year (AY) 2021-2022. ....

The Cebu Normal University (CNU) and Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) announced on Monday, May 24, that they will be officially accepting students for their College of Medicine in August.
“Today we declare victory for the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), led by Chair Popoy, Cebu Normal University, the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, and the stakeholders of the Central Visayas and the Philippines as we present to you the first-ever state-funded college of medicine in Central Visayas,” said CNU officer-in-charge Dr. Filomena Dayagbil.
On May 11, CHED’s commission en banc, led by chairperson Prospero “Popoy” De Vera III, gave the new College of Medicine approval to open its first semester this year. ....
