South Kingstown vigil calls for unity in response to sex assault case

SOUTH KINGSTOWN Family, friends, supporters and classmates of the four men accused of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman during a night of drinking March 1 gathered Tuesday night at the Peace Dale rotary to bring the community together toward unity, healing and justice. “We’re just here to say everybody needs a fair shot … Let’s allow people their due process,” said Marcus Robinson, a family member who addressed the crowd of 90-plus people at the South Kingstown Care & Justice vigil. Some bore signs reading “Innocent until proven guilty,” “Bring them home,” and “Reunite these families.” Another noted that Black youth are five times more likely to be detained as their white counterparts.
