PCC announces retirement of Mark Mitsui, Sylvia Kelley
Mitsui, the president of Portland Community College, will retire after the 2021-22 school year.
Portland Community College s president and executive vice president plan to retire, the college announced Friday, April 16.
Mark Mitsui, who has been president of PCC since 2016, will retire in June 2022, after the 2021-22 school year. Sylvia Kelley, the college s second-highest official, who has served since 2014, will step down this coming December.
We re fortunate, and so grateful, to have had President Mitsui and Executive Vice President Kelley at the helm during a time of significant growth and change at the college, in our immediate community, and in our nation, said Mohamed Alyajouri, chair of PCC s Board of Directors, in a statement. ....

Some GOP members get death threats because of gun bill vote as partisan tensions start early.
Disease, dysfunction, and deadlines are challenging the Oregon Legislature as it starts the second half of the 2021 session.
April 9 was the 80th day of the 160 days the Oregon constitution allows lawmakers to meet this year. The session has been marked so far by shutdowns and slowdowns. Senate Republicans walked out for the third session in a row, but just for a day to protest Democrat s lock on the agenda.
But some GOP senators would receive death threats from gun control opponents for not walking out on a bill to bar concealed weapons in state buildings. One email had a subject line SELLOUT and a chilling one-line message: You should be shot. ....
