Energy efficient homes planned for Glasgow to tackle climate change


Passivhaus is a higher standard with thicker insulation and higher standard windows.
After two weeks they will be opened and the amount of ice weighed to see how much heat has managed to get into the building.
The one with the most ice left will be the more energy efficient.
Passivhaus has five principles that reduce the amount of heat loss.
They are high-quality thermal insulation, windows with triple glazing, avoidance of thermal bridges, an airtight building envelope, and a ventilation system with heat recovery .
It means a Passive House building needs very little energy and they can do without the need for classic building heating systems. ....

Neil Simpson and Jack Ogston to take leading roles in the Club’s membership scheme which invests in the football budget
Dons legend, Neil Simpson, and lifelong fan, Jack Ogston, have been appointed as the first ambassador and custodian, respectively, for Aberdeen Football Club’s AberDNA programme.
The Club’s unique membership initiative was launched in March 2018 as a sustainable way of generating money for the football operation.
The roles have been created in response to feedback from members requesting more transparency on where the money generated is spent and the impact it has.
As AberDNA enters its fourth year with a record 6,500 paid members, the initiative will have raised an additional £1.8 million towards the football budget over the last three seasons. ....

In 1955, Bernat and Margaret Klein knocked on the door of a house ‘floating above the trees’ near their home in West Yorkshire and asked for the name of the architect. The house was Farnley Hey, designed by Peter Womersley for his brother, John.

Farnley Hey’s floor-to-ceiling windows, its split-level interior, and the ‘flow’ of its spaces so impressed the Kleins that a week later they invited Womersley to design their home and studio. Their site was on a densely wooded, isolated plot near Selkirk in the Scottish Borders.
