Staff Reports Over the next couple of weeks Scituate Police will be conducting compliance checks at local bars, restaurants, general stores and package stores to make sure these businesses are adhering to Massachusetts laws which require identification checks for anyone purchasing alcohol who might not appear to be 21 years of age. As part of the compliance checks, underage persons will be sent into the establishments with the intent to purchase alcohol. “I’m expecting that Scituate establishments will be following the law and the guidelines of the state,” said Sgt. Jerry O’Brien, who will be involved with the compliance checks.

Wednesday was the 11th day temperatures in the region have hit 90 degrees or higher, already approaching the average of 14 days for the entire summer, WCVB meteorologist Cindy Fitzgibbon said. She said the most days of 90 degrees or higher the Boston area has ever seen was in 1983, when 30 days hit at least 90. The hottest months are usually July and August, but June's heat shows this could be one of the warmest summers on the South Shore. "The longer-range forecast does predict a warmer-than-average summer," Fitzgibbon said. "June right now is going to go down in the records as the warmest. ... The amount of heat we have had already is quite significant."
Wicked Local Scituate officials have confirmed that a man died on Tuesday afternoon, June 29, after reportedly jumping off the Edward Foster Bridge to cool off. During a press conference Tuesday evening, Town Administrator Jim Boudreau said that Scituate police, fire and harbormaster departments, along with a Fire Department Dive Team that was training in the harbor, were on the scene within minutes after numerous 911 calls came in to the Scituate Public Safety Communication Center at 2:30 p.m. Additional emergency resources from Scituate’s state, local and federal partners also arrived to assist. The man, who has not been identified pending notification of next of kin, was located at 3:45 p.m. about 80 ft. south of the bridge.
