When it became apparent that Anne Kananu Mwenda would be the next big thing in Nairobi, the internet was lit trying to find her origins.
Her mother, a retired nurse, sought to set the record straight.
Esther Gakii Mwenda, 72, and Kananu’s relatives describe her as a child of many counties. Born in Mombasa, she grew up in Embu where she is also married but widowed. Her father was from Tharaka Nithi and her mother from Meru.  ....

Ann Kananu Mwenda was born in Embu County and attended St Michael Primary School in the same county. After completing her primary education, she joined Our Lady of Mercy Girls, Nagundu where she sat her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 1999.
Thereafter, she worked as a Personal Assistant, H. Mogambi & CO. Advocates between 2003 and 2004 and Customer Service & Personal Assistant to the CEO, MOKIR Enterprises between 2002 and 2003.
Education
Kananu has two certificates in Human Resource Management and Public Relations from the University of Nairobi which she attained between 2011 and 2012. Additionally, in 2013, she pursued a Diploma in Criminology and Security Management from St Paul’s University. ....

The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) finally appoints a female assistant bishop after decades of the church’s existence. Rev Dr Emily Onyango, ACK’s longest serving female clergy, becomes the first woman to hold such a senior position in the church.
Rev Dr Onyango was appointed during the Synod of the Diocese of Bondo, Siaya County, where she has been a priest and canon, and she will deputise Rt Rev Prof David Kodia. The Synod is the Supreme Council of the Anglican Church which meets once every three years. ....
