Dr. Anthony Fauci spoke out on Sunday to issue a chilling warning that the worst is yet to come with the coronavirus pandemic. Fauci, who has long been a member of the White House COVID-19 task force, told CNN that Joe Biden was correct in warning that cases were expected to surge due to families gathering for the holiday season.
"As we have gone from the late fall to the early winter, the numbers really are quite troubling," Fauci said. "With the hospitalizations over 120,000, we really are a critical stage."

Lawmakers are fighting to help small businesses afford health insurance, but they're running out of time. As the pandemic and the shutdowns wreck the economy, thousands of North Carolinians continue to lose their insurance. North Carolina has nearly 1.2 million uninsured residents. Gov. Roy Cooper and his allies are pushing Medicaid expansion as the solution. But Republicans are skeptical, and they want other reforms. Medicaid expansion receded into the background during the second meeting of the N.C. Council for Health Care Coverage on Friday, Dec. 18. Cooper filled the first meeting with reasons to expand Medicaid to cover low-income, childless adults. But after Republicans criticized the first meeting, the council turned its focus to other policies.

Politicians, activists, and even some religious leaders are quick to demand that the taxpayer shoulder the charitable role traditionally reserved for civil society and a compassionate citizenry. Most North Carolinians are familiar with the Rev. William Barber. He's infamous for incessantly sanctifying any government largesse as compassionate. Yet, the consequences of attempting to morph charity into a bureaucratic behemoth is not only bankrupting the nation but also creating a culture of entitlement bereft of gratitude.

Police body camera footage taken immediately following the shooting of Ahmaud Arbery shows William Bryan, who is charged with felony murder over the incident, telling police he tried to "block" Arbery. On Feb. 23, Bryan recorded footage of Arbery's death that, after it was made public, set off public outcry and protests over the shooting. The footage shows Travis and Gregory McMichael, each charged with murder and aggravated assault, confronting Arbery. The video goes on to show Travis and Arbery grappling over a shotgun carried by Travis, three gunshots, and Arbery collapsing on the ground.

Conservative Republicans in Beaufort County got another slap in the face at the Monday December 7th Beaufort County commissioners meeting. Predictions during the 2020 campaign proved to be correct. Conservative Republicans had predicted the election of yellow sheet John Rebholz would keep the County under the thumb of the Democrat Party. Yellow Sheet Rebholz and nominal Republican Frankie Waters joined with the two Democrats, Jerry Langley and Ed Booth to install Frankie Waters as Chairman and Democrat Jerry Langley as Vice Chairman. For sure, Rebholz and Waters did not corral the two Democrat Votes without some kind of political deal having been made. What ever that deal is it will involve the spending of large amounts of money, possibly for a new jail.
