The FINANCIAL Two-month borrow-and-return trial will run in five Seattle stores as part of Starbucks ongoing commitment to reducing single use cup waste and goal to reduce waste by 50% by 2030, Starbucks notes.
Trial program allows customers to order their beverage in a reusable cup, each replacing up to 30 disposable cups.
Company partners with Seattle-area service, Ridwell, to offer customers an at-home option to return their borrowed cup.

Starbucks Experiments With Reusable Cups Customers Don't Need to Clean

Even prior to the pandemic, coffee shops have long supported customers bringing their own cups to cut down on waste, but it s a hassle having to both remember to clean the cup and put it back in your bag for the next coffee. Starbucks is removing that hassle with its latest reusable cup idea, though.
It s called the Borrow a Cup program, and it s being trialed for two months in five Seattle stores in a bid to cut down on single-cup waste. Customers can request a reusable cup when they order their beverage and a $1 deposit is paid for the cup. Once your drink if finished, the cup can be scanned at a participating store’s contactless return kiosk located in the lobby or drive-thru and drop the cup in the designated opening in the kiosk. ....

Starting in Spring 2021, Starbucks will have oat milk available in all of its US locations following a successful limited launch of the plant milk in January 2020 at approximately 1,300 locations in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, and Wisconsin. Previously in August 2020, Starbucks had added oat milk to its menus across Canada. The addition of oat milk is not only to provide more options for dairy-free customers but also to support the company’s global sustainability commitments to be resource and planet-positive by 2030.
