Governor Ivey Announces New Suicide Prevention Initiative for Service Members, Veterans and Their Families

Governor Kay Ivey announced Friday a new statewide suicide prevention initiative for Service Members, Veterans, and their Families (SMVF).
Governor Ivey was joined at the Alabama State Capitol by members of Alabama’s Challenge for Preventing Suicide Among SMVF to introduce the initiative, which aims to create an impactful, long-term outcome across the state. In attendance were members from the Alabama Legislature and representatives from the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs, Alabama Department of Mental Health, Alabama Department of Public Health, Alabama National Guard, and non-profits including Still Serving Veterans and Veterans Recovery Resources.

Program connects veterans with jobs in Huntsville

Service members transitioning from active duty to the private work sector now have a point of contact whose sole responsibility is to connect them with Huntsville area jobs.
Preston Webb, a native of Madison, is the new corporate fellowship program manager for âHiring Our Heroes,â a nonprofit affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation in partnership with the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber.
The HOH program is composed of hiring events and leadership and fellowship programs that provide on-the-job training and professional development and networking opportunities for the military community.
Elizabeth Garcia, director of strategic communications for HOH at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, said the Huntsville Corporate Fellowship Program is available to transitioning service members in their last 180 days of active duty. ....

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - An organization dedicated to meeting the needs of those who have given so much for our country is celebrating 15 years of service!
This week marks 15 years since Still Serving Veterans opened its doors.
It was founded in 2006, during the early years of the War on Terror, as a way to help service men and women transition to civilian life.
Since then, the organization has grown to help in even more ways, like assisting with job searches, career counseling and more. ....
