COVID cases at Avoca, C-G, Hornell among new positives in Steuben

Cases associated with three local schools were among 17 Steuben County residents who tested positive for COVID-19 in Wednesday s report from the Steuben County Public Health Department.
Three individuals are associated with Avoca High School, Canisteo-Greenwood High School and the Hornell Intermediate School, said the county. 
Active cases continued to decline, falling to 216 down 12 from Tuesday and 98 since Friday. Steuben County s lower numbers reflect falling COVID-19 rates across the state. Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Thursday that the statewide positivity of 3.54% is the lowest since Nov. 25.  
With winter breaks approaching for Steuben County schools, Public Health Director Darlene Smith urged residents planning trips to adhere to New York state’s travel guidelines. ....

Steuben County NY COVID-19: Vaccines in short supply, but cases down

BATH  The Steuben County Public Health Department is still waiting for its COVID-19 vaccine supply to catch up with the number of residents eligible to receive vaccinations, Public Health Director Darlene Smith said Monday. 
Smith said Steuben County continues to advocate for a greater supply of vaccine. 
“With the addition of those with comorbidities being added to the list of those eligible for the vaccine starting next Monday, the majority of Steuben County’s population will be eligible,” said Smith. “Unfortunately, the vaccine supply provided to the health department on a weekly basis can only reach .2% of the population. Based on current allocations from New York State, it will take months to vaccinate those who are currently eligible. ....
