Susan Moran, D-Falmouth, that would change the weighted votes for Marthaâs Vineyard and Nantucket on the SSA board was met with immediate and vocal opposition â and we need to keep those voices strong and united. Moranâs bill aims to provide âparityâ on the SSA board â giving the five member ports an equal vote at the table. Right now, both the Vineyard representative and the Nantucket representative have a supermajority with weighted votes of 35 percent each, which is important given just how much both islands rely on the SSA for transportation on and off the islands, and for goods and services to be delivered. It should also be pointed out that if the SSA runs a deficit, the island communities are responsible for making up the bulk of those costs. ....

Moran told The Times Wednesday the bill aims to provide âparityâ between the port communities. âMy bill really looks at some parity between the island communities and the mainland communities so that no town really feels disenfranchisedâ¦,â Moran said. Moranâs legislation would essentially grant filibuster or stalemate power to the three minority ports of Barnstable, Falmouth, and New Bedford, should they vote against something in unison. New lease of life for Hartcliffe City Farm By Lowie Trevena, Monday Mar 8, 2021 A city farm will receive a new lease of life, thanks to a new partnership with two other local organisations. Hartcliffe City Farm will now be looked after by Windmill Hill City Farm and Heart of BS13, a charity addressing health and environment problems in south Bristol for more than 30 years. The site will remain as a farm, but the new custodians hope to also provide jobs and learning opportunities, and to host activities for the local community.
