Episode of ‘American Monster’ crime series to focus on Saginaw County woman’s murder

SAGINAW, MI An upcoming episode of a true crime television series is focusing on the 2016 murder of a Saginaw County woman.
Set to air at 9 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 27, on the Investigation Discovery channel, the installment of “American Monster” profiles the case of Melissa I. Thornton, strangled at age 24 by her ex-boyfriend.
Representatives from the show contacted Thornton’s older sister, Stefanie Thornton, via Facebook in late spring.
“They said whoever does the research for the show read some articles on the internet about her case,” Stefanie Thornton said. “It was exciting, but in a sad way. I was excited that my sister’s story could be told and maybe save somebody else.” ....
