Riding to remember the fallen


Patriots can remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice by waving the American flag and greeting helmeted veterans riding in Monday’s Ride for America. The annual Memorial Day event is back on after being canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic.
“We had 47 riders the first year,” said Stan Mauldin, co-founder of the event. In 2019, almost 1,400 people, riders and passengers, participated, Mauldin said.
Mauldin, a Vietnam veteran, said when he and other riders see people cheering along the event route, “It tugs at our heartstrings.”
The ride is organized by the Legion Riders of Post 233, members of the Barrett-Davis-Watson Loganville American Legion Post 233 in Loganville. The event has been held annually for 22 years, except for last year when COVID-19 hit. ....

Sarah Legesse identifies as Eritrean first, then African, then Black. But she understands that in the U.S., she’s Black first.
She’d never thought about her race before her family left Eritrea, in 2012, for a mostly white Philadelphia suburb with a small Black community. But time and the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement a year later helped her understand her place in the American racial system and her responsibility to fight for racial equity.

Gladiators President says after two successful vaccination events, they plan to hold more clinics, with a goal of vaccinating about 30,000 students in 8 weekends.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. In a step toward returning to normal, Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) partnered with Walmart, Atlanta Gladiators, and the Gladiators Foundation to help vaccinate more students and school staff.
Over the May 22 weekend, the groups vaccinated 599 Gwinnett students and parents in Duluth and Snellville.
In efforts to keep fighting vaccine hesitancy and get those 12 and older vaccinated, their new goal is to vaccinate 30,000 GCPS students in eight weekends. ....

Four teenagers in Georgia have been arrested in connection with a murder investigation dating back to February.
Kennedy Collins, 17, and
Jocelyn Spencer, 17, were both charged with felony murder and aggravated assault over the death of 
Faith Burns, 20, who was shot and killed near a home in Dacula, Ga. on Valentine’s Day.
Two 16-year-old girls whose names are not being released and who hail from Snellville, Ga. were also arrested in connection with Burns’s death. Collins and Spencer are both residents of Loganville, Ga., about 15 minutes away. ....

Five Teenagers Stand Accused of Killing One Woman in Georgia


Four teenagers in Georgia have been arrested in connection with a murder investigation dating back to February.
