Richardson: Make systems thinking education mandatory

ICHEME President Stephen Richardson has recommended to a House of Lords select committee that systems thinking skills should be mandatory in engineering education for effective risk management.
The oil and gas expert and Emeritus Professor of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London was joined by nuclear expert Dame Sue Ion, who is an Honorary Fellow of IChemE and Honorary President at the National Skills Academy for Nuclear. They were invited to give evidence virtually, on 10 March, to the Risk Assessment and Risk Planning Committee, regarding the resilience and risks within these sectors, as well as the challenges in developing and implementing risk assessment processes. ....

Tributes pour in for loyal, hard-working former Mayor and Deputy Council Leader who has died aged 80
Councillors have paid tribute to a former Mayor and former Deputy Council Leader who has died aged 80. 
Mayor of South Ribble from 2012 to 2013, Councillor Colin Clark was a vastly experienced local councillor, who represented the Longton and Hutton West ward on South Ribble Borough Council from 1997 to the present day in 2021.
Born in Ulverston, Cumbria, on January 23 1941, Cllr Clark later moved to Preston, aged 14, and attended Preston Grammar School.
His professional career began as a scientist at the UK Atomic Energy Authority at Springfields in Salwick near Preston, and after that, he spent 30 years in senior management positions in the water and environmental services sectors before he retired aged 52 from his position at South West Water. ....

CORONAVIRUS: Almost 300,000 have now received at least one vaccination jab in Lincolnshire


More than 300,000 jabs in total have now been administered in the county
The latest NHS England figures from Thursday show 294,795 first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Lincolnshire so far and 10,055 of those have had second doses.
The weekly data means 304,850 jabs in total have taken place between December 8 and March 7 up by 33,246 on the previous week (271,604).
The weekly number, however, is down on the previous week’s 34,228 jabs.
The figures show 205,229 of those to receive their first vaccination were over the age of 65 with a further another 6,170 given their second.
Some 89,566 people aged under 65 have received their first dose, with a further 3,885 receiving a second jab. This includes those between aged over 16 who are clinically vulnerable and at more risk of serious symptoms of coronavirus. ....
