Fultondale Mayor Larry Holcomb said the storm - which hit the northern Jefferson County city about 10:30 p.m. - cut a quarter mile wide swath after touching down near Interstate 65. It moved northeast toward Fultondale High School where there is substantial damage. Multiple businesses - such as Hurst Towing and the Hampton Inn were destroyed, as well as most everything in between.

bohara@leaderherald.com MINDEN A Fort Plain resident is facing arson and cruelty to animal charges after allegedly causing the fire that led to the death of his two cats. Adam J. Prime, 32, of 571 Salt Springville Road, Fort Plain was charged with third-degree arson, a felony, and aggravated cruelty to animals, also a felony, following an investigation into a structure fire at his home in which two cats died in the fire. According to a press release, on Saturday at about 6:46 a.m., the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office dispatched the South Minden Volunteer Fire Department for reports of a structure fire at 571 Salt Springville Road. Once the fire chief determined the fire under control, the Montgomery County Fire Investigation Team was requested.
