Letter: Grateful for proper nursing home care

The Daily Telegram
Thank you so much for your “Turning a Corner” story about COVID-19 by Spencer Durham on March 16, 2021.
I’m so grateful that nursing home residents are being looked in on. Hopefully this will continue long after COVID-19.
I can’t say this enough: If you are not happy with the care you or your loved one is receiving at your present nursing home, it’s not rocket science; you pick up the phone to start the process to transfer to another home.
I was a resident (at another home) for over 2½ years when I transferred to Lenawee Medical Care facility on March 1, 2021. I’m now in heaven and I did not have to die to get there. ....

A few months into my new job, my editor, Ray Kisonas, offered me the opportunity to write a column.
Yeah, with what time, Ray? I thought.
Being the Adrian beat reporter kept me more than busy. I loved the idea, though. It d be great experience, even if I wasn t sure I had enough material to make it a regular thing.
I can t tell you how many times I had column attempt written on my weekly to-do list, but I figure being on my way out is as good a time as any to give this column thing a shot. ....

Surviving to Thriving looks to grow its impact

The Monroe News
ADRIAN Two local survivors of domestic violence are looking to add resources to the community for fellow survivors.
Melissa Beal joined Surviving to Thriving after being a victim of domestic violence. The Adrian Township woman left her abusive relationship and wanted to do something to help herself and other survivors.
She said the group helped her heal. It also helped her unlock her passion: being an advocate for other survivors. Beal has used her passion to organize a domestic violence awareness rally at the state Capitol for the past two years.
Beal linked up with fellow survivor Vanessa Wallace of Tecumseh through the group, and together they have revamped Surviving to Thriving with a focus on domestic violence survivors. ....
