Spencer, IA (KICD) The Spencer Economic Development Committee met Thursday evening to discuss abatements and Economic Development. Spencer City Manager Amanda Mack says SEDC is moving forward with their infill property projects.
Mack says they’ve also been looking into what they can do to meet the need of local businesses.
She says there will be movement on the properties in the next couple of months.

Watertown Mayor Talks About Decision to Hire Amanda Mack

Watertown, SD (KICD)– The City Council in Watertown, South Dakota hired Spencer City Manager Amanda Mack for a similar position last week and Mayor Sarah Caron tells KICD News there is a reason the choice was unanimous.
Caron tells us the decision was made to change government types in Watertown to give the community of 22-thousand residents some professional continuity through mayoral administrations.
The change will take effect July 1st with the City of Watertown hoping to have Mack on the job by mid-June.

Mack Unanimous Pick to Head Watertown City Government

Watertown, SD (KICD) Spencer City Manager Amanda Mack was the unanimous choice of the Watertown, South Dakota City Council and mayor to be the city’s first-ever city manager. Mack and three other finalists selected by a Minneapolis Human Resources firm were interviewed Friday afternoon, with her being offered the job after a very short discussion among the council.
Mack tells KICD News the position feels right.

Mack verbally accepted the position and hopes to work out details this weekend. Watertown switches to a city manager form of government July 1st and would like to have her on-board mid June to help the transition. ....

Spencer, IA (KICD)– The COVID-19 pandemic may have slowed the process of setting long-term goals in many communities, but Spencer City Manager Amanda Mack says the progress locally is starting to pick up steam.
The process began by looking at the very broad picture at that first gathering, but has come more into focus over the last few months with staff and elected officials identifying three main areas the city should focus on.
At the end of the day, Mack says the biggest goal of all is deciding what is best to help the City of Spencer not only continue to recruit new businesses and residents, but also make it a place everyone wants to be. ....
