Ms. Marcellia Henry, Interim Head of Public Education, and Mr. Dennis Pantophlet, Financial Officer, accepted the donation on behalf of the Public Education School Board.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the education system in a variety of ways, more specifically in the way that education was offered with a major change in students receiving instruction online/digitally or in a hybrid approach,” said Ms. Henry. “Our teachers were also affected in the sense that they had to learn quickly how to provide instruction and educate their students primarily in an online setting,” she added.

St. Martin News Network - Saba receives US $1 million in additional funding.

Published: 12 March 2021
SABA:--- The Public Entity Saba receives a one-time amount of US $1 million from the Dutch Government. State Secretary of Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations Raymond Knops wants to add the monies in 2021 to the free allowance, allowing Saba to take its own decision on how to spend these funds, he informed the local government in a letter on Friday, March 12.
State Secretary Knops: “I have been consulting with the Saba Executive Council for a while about the height of the free allowance and the shortage of structural means. St. Martin News Network - Emmanuel questions construct Trust Fund steering committee.

Published: 09 March 2021
~ Says Marcel Gumbs a failure for St. Maarten ~
PHILIPSBURG:--- Independent Member of Parliament Christophe Emmanuel on Tuesday said that considering the lack of progress on Trust Fund projects for St. Maarten, the entire construct of the Trust Fund Steering Committee should be re-evaluated. He also questioned if the three members of this committee will be replaced considering the slow progress on St. Maarten, going on four years after hurricane Irma.
MP Emmanuel pointed out that even State Secretary Raymond Knops has admitted that the World Bank was not the ideal entity to channel reconstruction funds through and criticized the pace of work being executed. Moreover, the MP continued, outside of not working efficiently, "nobody seems to know how this committee actually works, how they evaluate what has to be done, how they measure progress, nothing. It all feels shady because of a lack of transparency. We should be getting monthly updates. We get nothing," the MP said.
