Swindon’s Bus Company is working with Swindon Stories in a bid to increase reading for pleasure by helping to distribute a special book to children living in the area. Run by the National Literacy Trust, Swindon Stories has taken delivery of some Choose Kind journals, which were donated so that youngsters can write their thoughts and make a commitment to do one wonderful thing everyday. There are 90 copies available at the bus company s travel shop in Fleming Way. Anyone wishing to book a socially-distanced slot to pick up a free copy of the journal can do so by calling 01793 428428. For safety reasons, pre-booking is essential. ....
Crews are dealing with a burst water main in Thames Avenue, the fire service said. Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service urged people to avoid the area, as the burst main had flooded roads. Currently, crews from Stratton fire station are at the scene together with a fire officer. Firefighters were called out at 6.30am. A BUS operator in the town is urging people to communicate on Time To Talk Day. The initiative, which runs today, is designed to help those experiencing loneliness or mental health issues – particularly during the pandemic. Swindon s Bus Company is marking the occasion by encouraging its workforce to stay in touch with one another. “We know how challenging the past year has been for our colleagues, with many continuing to work throughout – providing vital bus services for key workers across Swindon,” said head of communications Nikki Honer. “Staff engagement has always been important to all of us at Swindon’s Bus Company – and it’s now more important than ever. The bus operator has provided transport throughout three lockdowns for those who play vital roles within the local community. And it is planning to celebrate Covid heroes in a bus-naming ceremony. “My colleagues here at Swindon’s Bus Company are themselves key workers, and we have huge respect for those keeping us all going – whether they are NHS, supermarket staff, postal workers, carers or teachers,” said managing director Andrew Wickham. “It hasn’t been easy for the many heroes who have continued to work in some incredibly challenging conditions.
