In a follow-up to our first article from F-14 Tomcat RIO and TOPGUN instructor Dave “Bio” Baranek this past May, we thought our readers might enjoy this story about his experiences on a TOPGUN training detachment to NAS Key West in Florida, where he came across a stray SR-71 Blackbird in one of the hangars. As you will know from our first article, “Bio” Baranek also worked as an adviser on the 1986 film,

USC Trustee Malcolm Currie, engineering physicist and former chairman and CEO of Hughes Aircraft Company, died on April 18 with his wife and two daughters beside him. He was 94.
A defense and aerospace industry leader, Currie was best known for his work at the helm of Hughes Aircraft, a post he held from 1988 to 1993 in the wake of the defense contractor’s acquisition by General Motors. His distinguished career in electronics and weapons research and development included public service as undersecretary of defense research and engineering in the U.S. Department of Defense. He ....
