.-The Momentary announced the debut of Sarah Cain: In Nature (on view February 12 to May 30) and Diana Al-Hadid: Ash in the Trade Winds (on view March 5 to June 13), as well as the opening of Derrick Adams: Sanctuary (on view February 23 to June 6). All three visual art exhibitions are free to view, no tickets necessary.
“We’re excited to present the Momentary’s first exhibitions of 2021 with the work of these three contemporary artists,” said Lauren Haynes, director of artist initiatives and curator, contemporary art at the Momentary and Crystal Bridges. “Aligning with our mission to champion contemporary art’s role in everyday life, each of these shows bring a unique set of themes and materials to the space and encourages visitors to simply experience what they have to offer.” ....

.-Rhona Hoffman Gallery is presenting The Last Resort, the gallery’s fourth solo exhibition with Brooklyn-based artist Derrick Adams (b. 1970, Baltimore, MD). Culminating the artist’s series Floaters, which began in 2015, the collection of large-scale works on paper present the final chapter in Adams’ feeling investigation into depictions of Black leisure. Each completed in 2020, six of the paintings on view renew Adams’ signature use of exuberant color blocking figuration to introduce the idle time of Black bodies in compositions that are joyous, abundant, and radical in their refusal of tragedy. Alongside these works, a number of intimate watercolors—whose treatment is loose, delicate, and soft—feature bathers resting upon fantastical inflatables of swans, unicorns, and rainbows. ....
