Voluntary Assisted Dying laws introduced to Queensland Parliament


JOINT STATEMENT
Legislation to allow access to voluntary assisted dying in Queensland has been introduced into Parliament today.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2021 will now be scrutinised by the Health and Environment Parliamentary Committee, and will go through further public consultation.
“The path to this day has been long and considered, and paved with reverence and respect,” the Premier said.
“Many Queenslanders who have watched a loved one suffer feel passionately that there must be dignified options available to everyone.
“This bill delivers on an important election commitment I made to the people of Queensland.
“It provides a chain of safeguards to ensure only those at the end of life can make these choices, and then only those capable of making that choice for themselves. ....

New campaign puts focus on non-physical forms of domestic and family violence


JOINT STATEMENT
The Palaszczuk Government has launched a new awareness campaign during Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month to help Queenslanders identify all forms of domestic and family violence (DFV).
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said domestic and family violence is not always physical and can affect Queenslanders of all ages.
“We know domestic and family violence isn’t just physical,” the Premier said.
“Often it involves financial abuse, social abuse, isolation or even the use of technology to torment. All of these things can be just as dangerous as physical abuse.
“This new campaign aims to educate Queenslanders on how to recognise all forms of domestic and family violence and what support is out there. ....

MD Anderson researchers present new findings in targeted and combination therapies at 2021 ASCO Annual Meeting
Several Phase II clinical trials conducted by researchers from The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center show promising results for patients with melanoma, breast cancer, HER2-positive tumors and ovarian cancer. The results of these studies, which will be presented at the virtual 2021 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting, highlight new advances in drug therapy research to improve patient outcomes.
Combination therapy of nivolumab and relatlimab before and after surgery is effective against melanoma (Abstract #9502)
In a Phase II study, MD Anderson researchers showed that a regimen of neoadjuvant and adjuvant treatment with checkpoint inhibitors nivolumab, a PD-1 inhibitor, and relatlimab, a LAG-3 inhibitor, was safe and effective in patients with resectable clinical stage III melanoma. ....
