Haleakala National Park offers free entrance Saturday | News, Sports, Jobs

Haleakala National Park will offer free entrance on Saturday to kick off National Park Week, which runs through April 25, the park announced.
Entrance fees will be waived for both residents and visitors. Sunrise reservations are still required from 3 to 7 a.m. and can be placed at recreation.gov. The Kipahulu District will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
During National Park Week, the park will celebrate Earth Day on Thursday with activities in the Summit District from 11 a.m. to noon and from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. outside the Haleakala Visitor Center at 9,740 feet and at Hosmer Grove from 12 to 1 p.m. ....

HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - The summit of Haleakala National Park has reopened after experiencing a bit of winter weather.
Cold temperatures brought snow and ice to the summit, covering native plants and creating icy condition on roads.
Drivers should be prepared for slippery conditions and periodic ice on roadways in certain areas.
The road that leads to the Puʻuʻulaʻula (Red Hill) past the Haleakala Visitor Center is still closed due to icy roadways. ....
