SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - Extra Table is partnering with coast mayors to collect food and help restock food pantries. But they’re going about it in a very specific way to gather some of the most commonly used items.
Each city is collecting one item, for instance Waveland is taking donations of rice, while Gulfport concentrates on bringing in peanut butter.
Donations will be collected for one month, starting Friday, February 12th until Friday, March 12th. A final outdoor box packing will take place Friday, March 12th at noon at the Lyman Community Center. Extra Table will then divide the number of boxes packed by participating cities giving equal amounts of food to each of Extra Table’s coastal pantry partners. HANCOCK COUNTY Tami White was taught from a young age that giving back is just what you do.
Whether she’s distributing thousands of dollars to local nonprofits through her family’s foundation or serving meals to teens at The Landing Place in Greenfield, White has made an indelible mark on Hancock County, say those who are familiar with her work.

Dec. 24 The holidays are a time when people come together. Although COVID-19 has led to a lack In physical gatherings, it hasn t stopped the kindness and generosity on the Coast.
Three organizations, Extra Table, Catch Together and Mississippi Commercial Fisheries United, came together to not only feed hundreds of people In Mississippi, but also help the local shrimpers on the Coast.
In June, The Mississippi Commercial Fisheries United (MCFU) collected 1,500 pounds of king mackerel left over from a Biloxi fishing tournament and teamed up with the hunger relief organization Extra Table to clean, fillet and distribute the 1,500 pounds fish. ....

GREENFIELD It’s been an unpredictable year for those who often visit the Greenfield Senior Center, which has closed twice this year to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The center is a social hub for many seniors who come together to share a variety of activities, from knitting to billiards to line dancing.
Rather than leave members to fend for themselves while they’re apart, director Kim Voorhis has kept busy keeping tabs on them, making sure they have what they need to get through this challenging year. ....
