A suspect in a case Avon police have been investigating since 1984 has been identified through DNA and he is due in court in Connecticut on Friday.
George Legere, 73, was arrested on May 19 in Springfield, Massachusetts as a fugitive from justice. The warrant was served at the Hampden County Jail and House of Corrections in Massachusetts, according to Avon police.

He is being charged with three counts of kidnapping in the first degree.
The investigation started on April 13, 1984 when officers responded to Avonwood Road in Avon at 3:58 a.m., where a person was slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle and the horn was going off. ....

AVON, Conn. A 37-year-old cold case from Avon was solved after DNA found at the scene all those years ago recently matched that of a man already in jail on a different case. 
Police arrested 73-year-old George Legere while he was in Hampden (MA) County Jail and House of Correction. He was charged with three counts of kidnapping in the first degree stemming from a case in the 1980s. 
Back in 1984, police responded to Avonwood Road in Avon after a report of a person slumped over onto the steering wheel setting off the horn.  ....

NORTHAMPTON Staff at the Hampshire, Hampden and Franklin county jails have begun to get vaccinated against COVID-19, and jail officials said they plan to offer vaccinations to inmates this week.
At the Hampshire County Jail and House of Correction, staff began getting vaccinated on Jan. 7, and so far, 44 members have been inoculated, Sheriff Patrick Cahillane said Tuesday. ....
