Some People With Disabilities, N.H. Caregivers Report Roadblocks When Registering For COVID Vaccine


Lisa Beaudoin, who advocates on behalf of families within New Hampshire’s disability community as executive director of ABLE New Hampshire, says that part of the process has been a major hurdle.
“The lack of clarity and consistency in vaccine guidance, by what ostensibly becomes the gatekeepers of the vaccine, is leaving behind our most vulnerable members of the disability community,” Beaudoin told NHPR’s The Exchange during a Tuesday conversation about vaccine equity. “And that’s been very problematic.”
She said some families have struggled to navigate the bureaucratic authorization process and, at times, struggled to get their providers to agree to attest to their eligibility. ....

COVID-19: NH health official says state is preparing for infectious variants

HANOVER As potentially more infectious variants of the virus that causes COVID-19 arrive in the U.S. from the United Kingdom, South Africa and Brazil, public health officials are preparing for them, New Hampshire’s state epidemiologist said.
“The variants are going to be the next big challenge in our response,” Dr. Benjamin Chan said in a virtual community conversation with Dartmouth College Provost Joseph Helble on Wednesday.
If the variants are more infectious, Chan said that they could make it more difficult for health officials to prevent the virus’s spread. Laboratories in New Hampshire and elsewhere in the U.S. are working to step up their abilities to perform genetic sequencing on test samples in order to determine if and when these variants are present, he said. ....
