GAINESVILLE  Gainesville used a strong defensive effort to knock Class 3A No. 4 West Hall 2-0 on Tuesday at City Park Stadium.
It was the second straight win for the Red Elephants (4-3) who began the season ranked but have been battling injuries in the early part of the season. The loss snapped the Spartans (3-2) three-match win streak.
The back four of Gainesville Ronald Penado, David Menchaca, Pablo Tamayo and Endy Alarcon along with David Esquivel and Sinuhe Zaragoza, who shared time in goal, kept West Hall, which had scored 17 goals during the win streak, at bay.
The Red Elephants got goals from Aram Lara on a header from a corner kicked by Noe Vasquez and from Noe Vasquez on a penalty kick. ....

Mr. Harry K. Rush, 78, of Willow Valley, Lancaster, Pa., passed away Jan. 17, 2021, from a short battle with cancer.
Born in Easton, Pa., on July 26, 1942, he was the eldest son of the late Kenneth P. Rush and the late Dorothy M. (Anderson) Rush. Raised in Bloomsbury, N.J., and later moving to Blairstown, N.J., he was a 1960 graduate of Blairstown High School. His senior project on Cuba resulted in a correspondence and invitation from Fidel Castro to see Cuba for himself much to Harry’s shocked amazement. Harry did not accept the invite. He later graduated from Trenton Junior College (1963) with a degree in biology and Rutgers University (1973) with a degree in vocational education, with honors. ....

Jonny Keen had been sick for a few months.
Partner Kristin Burt likened his daily vomiting to that of a woman experiencing morning sickness.
But come September last year, Keen, 39, crashed his car, suffering a blackout.
By December, he was having a CT scan and just before Christmas was told he had five tumours, and only had a few months to live.

Auburn University holds first graduation ceremony in a year


Auburn University recognized its fall 2020 graduates at the outdoor, in-person commencement ceremonies Saturday.
More than 1,900 degree candidates were honored with colleges and schools holding short, individual ceremonies running all day in Jordan-Hare Stadium.
“Seven semesters, six internships, four months of online class, two jobs, one small black-owned business and zero student debt have brought me here today,” Harbert College of Business marketing graduate, Taylor Stallworth, said. “This is a really special day.”
There were a total of 1,500 bachelors, 347 master s and 123 doctoral students earned their degrees, and many opted to attend their ceremonies, the first held since December of 2019.
It was a different ceremony, too, as many compared the event to the optional, non-ceremonial celebration for spring and summer graduates back in August. Ushered inside in time slots, guests filled both stadium seats and Pat Dye Field to cheer on their s ....
