As many familiar with volunteerism will tell you, people would rather give $10 instead of 10 minutes. It’s just a reflection of our busy lives.
Christy Miller is an outlier. She’ll give 10,000 steps (more like 70,000) to raise funds and awareness for causes she cares about.
All of this after hours in her role as development director for First Tee Connecticut. She shepherds statewide fundraising efforts for the national organization that teaches character to youth through the game of golf.
In 2020, with a million-dollar budget, First Tee Connecticut served 61,000 kids through in-school and outreach programs and golf lessons. She has held her post for six years. ....

First in-person race event for Hartford Marathon held in Burlington


There was a field of 500 runners at the sold-out Burlington to Collinsville Classic 10K.

BURLINGTON, Connecticut The Hartford Marathon Foundation hosted the first in-person race event of 2021 with a field of 500 runners at the sold-out Burlington to Collinsville Classic 10K.
The races covered a 6.2 mile course along the Farmington River to Collinsville with post-race party. Runners were asked to bring non-perishable food donations for the HMF Can drive to benefit Canton Food Bank.
Runners set of in groups in order to be socially distant.

WALLINGORD Greg Whitehouse, 61, was paralyzed in November by a rare autoimmune disorder likely triggered by COVID-19, and had to learn to walk all over again.
What a difference six months has made.
These days Whitehouse is training for a 5K run and obstacle course after being named Featured Adaptive Athlete for the 2021 Gaylord Gauntlet 5K & Obstacle Race at Gaylord Specialty Healthcare, the Wallingford facility where he was rehabilitated. ....
