Nova Scotia man fined $6,000 for destroying nests of threatened species of bird

HALIFAX
A Nova Scotia man has been fined $6,000 after pleading guilty to destroying the nests of a protected species of bird.
Environment and Climate Change Canada says Gerald Douglas Fulton was sentenced on Feb. 19 in provincial court after pleading guilty to violating one charge under the Species at Risk Act.
The agency says the Nova Scotia Department of Lands and Forestry received a call in August 2019 about a front-end loader near the nests of bank swallows, a threatened species, in Millville, N.S.
It says an investigation confirmed that Fulton destroyed the nests.
Fulton was ordered to pay a penalty of $5,000 and a fine of $1,000. ....

Almost 300 people in HRM shelters will get vaccinated next month

The province decided to prioritize people without stable housing, who were originally in the “expanded access” phase.
On March 16, premier Iain Rankin announced that hundreds of vaccines will soon be going to people staying in shelters in HRM. “We’ll be providing vaccine early April to about 300 people in the Halifax area who are in homeless shelters,” he said at Tuesday’s regular COVID-19 briefing with top doc Robert Strang. “We’ll also offer vaccine to people who work and volunteer in these shelters.”
According to the Affordable Housing Association of Nova Scotia there are an estimated 421 unhoused people living in HRM, 329 of whom are defined as “chronically homeless,” meaning it’s been more than six months. ....

18-year-old N.S. man charged with breaking into vehicles

HALIFAX
The Halifax District RCMP has charged an 18-year-old man from Middle Sackville, N.S. in connection to break and enters to vehicles.
Around 9:13 p.m. on Monday, the Halifax District RCMP responded to complaints of a man checking vehicles in the area of Darlington Drive.
Once RCMP arrived, they located a suspect matching the description. While officers were speaking with the man, one of the residents exited their home and confirmed with police that they had the right man.
Police arrested the 18-year-old without incident. They say he did have stolen property in his possession, which was returned to the owners. ....

New Brunswick gearing up for bigger vaccine shipments

FREDERICTON
New Brunswick’s Health Minister says while the province currently has the ability to administer about 4,000 vaccine doses a day, he province will see a delivery of 10 times thatnext week.
It is expected that 17,460 doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines will arrive this week, with more than double that forecasted to arrive next week.
The shipment will include a total of 41,570 doses, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada.
Opposition leader Roger Melanson says he ll be watching to see how quickly those dosesmake it into the arms of New Brunswickers.
How much time will that take what will be the gap between receiving and actually vaccinating people? Melanson said. ....
