Donville Barrow slowly shuffled into the University of Bridgeport’s Wheeler Recreation Center Tuesday afternoon, aided by the cane in his right hand, to get his COVID-19 vaccine shot.
Employees from Bridgeport Hospital checked him in and escorted him to one of the 20 vaccination stations set up on the basketball court. Within minutes, he was sitting in an observation area, his first dose completed. ....

STAMFORD The president of Stamford’s Board of Representatives has asked the state Department of Health to release COVID-19 vaccination data broken down by race and municipality, saying statewide data isn’t enough to guide local officials looking to tackle inequities in distribution.
The Department of Health recently released data showing that as of Feb. 3 about 56 percent of first doses provided across Connecticut went to people identifying as white. Meanwhile, 3.4 percent of doses went to people identifying as Black, 5.2 percent went to those identifying as Hispanic, 2.6 percent ....

BRIDGEPORT Eddie Jamal said he is not a fan of smoking, but the profits from tobacco sales particularly flavored products keep his gas station open and 10 people employed.
“A ban would take away a large portion of my revenue and hand it over to the black market,” Jamal told the City Council recently. “Imagine you were me and, despite doing nothing wrong, your entire life’s work is destroyed.” ....

BRIDGEPORT Normally draped in his trademark richly colored suits when out and about, Councilman Ernie Newton is publicly baring an arm for a cause.
“I’m here today to get my shot because I believe that this will help us not spread the disease,” Newton says in a video posted online on Facebook over the weekend.
With some minorities hesitant to receive the two-dose coronavirus vaccinations, Newton, a longtime Black community leader and politician, recently pledged to promote his inoculation in order to convince constituents it is safe to do so. ....
