Ex-Zimbabwe captain Heath Streak banned 8 years for corruption

PARIS: Former Zimbabwe cricket captain Heath Streak was on Wednesday banned for eight years on corruption charges, the International Cricket Council announced.
“Mr Streak chose to admit the charges and agreed the sanction with the ICC in lieu of an Anti-Corruption Tribunal hearing,” an ICC statement said.
The Zimbabwe coach from 2016 to 2018, his ban extends until March, 2029.
Streak, 47, was found guilty of breaching five rules of the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Code related to betting.
He disclosed inside information in relation to matches in the 2018 Tri-Series involving Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, the Zimbabwe v Afghanistan series in 2018, the IPL 2018 and the APL 2018, the statement revealed. ....

BEIJING, April 13 Each afternoon without fail, a handful of men mostly in their 60s gather at an old bicycle shed in southwest Beijing, clad in sweatshirts and track pants and ready to pump iron.
Up to eight men could be doing bench presses, dumbbell curls or wide-grip pulldowns in the windowless shed, their rust-stained equipment built decades ago with scrap metal from a nearby railway wagon factory where they used to work a far cry from modern gyms elsewhere in the Chinese capital. ....

Prior to being found dead near the Texas Department of Public Safety Crime Lab east of Bob Bullock Loop, Justin Allen Heath told his girlfriend that Colton Quade Branning wanted Heath to smuggle a load of narcotics, states an arrest affidavit.
Branning, 30, was arrested in connection with the death of Heath, 25, and was charged with murder. Branning has been behind bars since he was booked into the Webb County Jail on March 16. Heath’s death marked the city’s second homicide in 2021. ....
