Zev Eleff – The Conversation

Rabbi Zev Eleff is Chief Academic Officer of Hebrew Theological College and an associate professor of Jewish history for the Touro College and University System. He earned a doctorate in American Jewish history at Brandeis University, a Master of Arts in history and education from Teachers College at Columbia University and was ordained at Yeshiva University s Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary. He has authored six books and more than 30 scholarly articles published in both English and Hebrew and received the 2015 Salo Wittmayer Baron Dissertation Award at the Association of Jewish Studies (AJS) annual conference in Boston, the principal academic conference for the entire field of Jewish studies. He holds a number of regional and national leadership positions in the American Jewish community, and is a scholar with considerable research interests in the area of American Jewish history, Orthodox Judaism and contemporary American religion ....

Documenting, sharing, and learning from Jewish life during pandemic

The Council of American Jewish Museums and George Mason University’s Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media are launching two new collecting initiatives with support from a group of Jewish funders, the Chronicling Funder Collaborative, to document diverse Jewish experiences of the pandemic. The Rosenzweig Center received a grant to create a web portal that will serve as a digital content hub reflecting Jewish life during this time. The grant to CAJM enables it to partner with 18 member institutions to lead a broad-based oral history collecting initiative.

Rabbi Abraham J. Twerski, an international authority on addiction who founded Gateway Rehabilitation Center, died from covid-19 Sunday in Israel, according to several reports.
Dr. Twerski, 90, had been hospitalized after contracting covid last week, The Yeshiva World reported.
Twerski founded Gateway, a drug and alcohol treatment center in Center Township, Beaver County, in 1972 and was its medical director emeritus. He also served for 20 years as the clinical head of psychiatry at the now-defunct St. Francis Hospital in Lawrenceville. ....
