Rensselaer County Republicans announce candidate slate for 2021 election


RENSSELAER COUNTY, N.Y. — The Rensselaer County Republican Committee recently unanimously endorsed a slate of candidates recently, including Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin, Rensselaer County Clerk Frank Merola, members of the County Legislature and candidates for local office.
Candidates and members were enthusiastic about the upcoming elections, including a number of new additions to the ticket. In the days before the committee meeting, Republicans welcomed two town supervisors who have previously run with Democrats.
The party also endorsed a fusion ticket for races in Troy, further expanding a base of support.

“We are looking forward to a successful election cycle, and believe our message of lower taxes, more opportunity and protection of freedoms and security will especially resonate with voters this year,” Chairman John Rustin said. ....

BENNINGTON — The sponsors of legislation to help Vermonters obtain medical monitoring after exposure to toxic substances announced a third legislative effort on the issue Friday, proposing a new version of a bill that was twice vetoed by Gov. Phil Scott.
Sens. Brian Campion and Dick Sears, both Bennington Democrats, and supporters of the proposal, spoke Friday afternoon outside the former ChemFab Corp. factory building in North Bennington. The plant is considered by the state a primary source of PFOA contamination of hundreds of local wells.
The senators said the newly drafted medical monitoring bill, following prior versions in 2019 and 2020, addresses concerns voiced by the governor that such legislation would discourage companies from locating or expanding in Vermont. ....

Governor Cuomo Announces $31.5 Million Awarded to Conserve More than 15,000 Acres of New York Farmland

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that more than $31.5 million is being awarded to strengthen New York s agricultural industry through the Farmland Protection Implementation Grants program. These projects will protect a total of 15,600 acres on 22 New York dairy farms and eight non-dairy farms, helping to keep valuable farmland in production, encourage diversification, and ensure the long-term viability of New York s farming operations. Since 2018, New York State has made available more than $117 million for farmland protection statewide.
Climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic are creating unprecedented challenges for farmers throughout New York State, and preserving their farmland for production will aid our economic recovery,   ....
