BAD AXE A member of We the County asked the Huron County Board of Commissioners for help getting the names of people who turn in businesses in to the county health department for violating COVID-19 rules.
LJ Wade, the We the County member who spoke, wanted the county to enact an ordinance to get such names. His reasons for doing so include that a competitive business can turn another business in, a person who does not like a business can turn one in, the idea of doing so can cause division in communities, and a health inspector cannot say that someone turned you in when no one did. ....

BAD AXE The Huron County Planning Commission has scheduled a public hearing to discuss the latest draft of the long in-development master plan at its upcoming February meeting.
The meeting will take place Feb 3, at 7 p.m., at the Huron County Expo Center in Bad Axe, with the purpose of the public hearing to gain public comments about the master plan.
The public hearing was originally supposed to take place at the planners December meeting, though it was postponed due to coronavirus restrictions. ....

BAD AXE A member of the We the County group asked the Huron County Board of Commissioners some questions during this week’s meeting about what information relating to the coronavirus pandemic county officials can make available.
Some of the questions Debb Knarian asked revolved around the determinations for fines businesses receive for not following mandates, how COVID-19 cases are determined, who is doing the testing, what the criteria is for determining someone died of COVID-19, and if they looked into expanding the board of health. ....

BAD AXE The Huron County Board of Commissioners adapted a new COVID-19 Preparedness and Response plan for county employees to follow for the next few months.
Jodi Essenmacher, the executive assistant for the county’s board of commissioners, is listed in the plan as the worksite supervisor, which she describes as being the point person who will answer questions about it.
“If I don’t have the answer, I’ll find the answer,” Essenmacher said.
The new plan follows the template the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration laid out, while the previous plan followed the template laid out by the county’s liability insurance provider. Essenmacher said that Steve Allen, the county’s corporation counsel, recommended the county follow MIOSHA’s guidelines that w ....

BAD AXE The rescheduled Huron County Board of Commissioners meeting from earlier this month has been postponed again.
Jodi Essenmacher, the executive assistant for the commissioners, said the meeting would likely be held Tuesday morning in a similar matter to earlier this year where the commissioners meet in the district courtroom of the county building and all the attendees would attend via the Zoom conferencing application.
Essenmacher said she would have to get her Zoom account reactivated on Monday in order to make that happen, as she would have to send out the proper meeting invitations. ....
