Wilmington airports add billions to economy for local area

At Wilmington International, the economic growth reflected in the report stems, in part, from the addition of United Airlines in 2018, said Airport Director Julie Wilsey. Other airlines that serve ILM have also added destinations in recent years, which has helped boost the number of passengers served.
Those additional non-stops, flights, and airlines have certainly increased the appeal for the local community and businesses, she said.
At Cape Fear Regional Jetport, money flies into Brunswick County, said manager Howie Franklin. The airport primarily serves people traveling for leisure.
We re primarily a destination airport, he added.
Several businesses also operate out of the jetport, including two flight schools, a charter service, and a skydiving company. Those businesses help account for the nearly 2,000 jobs that the airport brought to the area in 2019. ....

ILM's economic impact rises to $2.3 billion, state report shows

Soaring to a $2.3 billion economic output, the Wilmington International Airport s contribution to the state had risen above previous figures before the COVID-19 downturn in overall travel, according to a state report.
That report, which is based on 2019 data, also showed ILM supported 16,385 jobs and generated $572.7 million in personal income and nearly $85 million in state and local taxes.
The recent figures mark a rise from a previous report, which showed ILM having an economic impact of $1.8 billion, supporting 13,000 jobs and generating $455.7 million in income and $66.8 million in tax revenues. ....
