Indiana COVID update: 1,798,858 fully vaccinated; 19 new deaths

Indiana Wednesday reported 1,272 new COVID-19 cases and an additional 19 deaths. More than 1.79 million Indiana residents ages 16 and older are now fully vaccinated.
Three counties, all along the state’s northern border, are shaded red this week for the number of weekly cases per 100,000 residents on the state’s weekly update of its metrics map. LaPorte, St. Joseph, and Steuben Counties all had more than 200 weekly cases per 100,000 residents. All the other counties in the northern part of the state are shaded orange, meaning that they saw between 100 to 199 new cases per 100,000 residents.
Marion, Hancock and Hendricks Counties also were all shaded orange on the weekly update. The other counties in Central Indiana were shaded yellow, meaning they saw between 10 and 99 weekly cases per 100,000 residents. ....

Indiana bill on wind, solar ebergy standards change after pushback

A bill that would have overridden local ordinances that restrict or prohibit wind power in Indiana has taken a “180 degree turn” after pushback from local officials.
HB 1381 would establish statewide standards for how close wind and solar projects can be to other properties. But a new amendment would allow county and local governments to maintain restrictive ordinances, while also offering a hefty incentive for abandoning them.
The bill was amended in the Senate Utilities hearing Thursday morning to include the option for counties to adopt “renewable energy districts.” Essentially, these districts would provide a space for governments to approve wind projects if a group of property owners want the turbines on their land while maintaining local control over their siting. ....
