KUALA LUMPUR, May 20 — Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s lawyers today sought to suggest that the now fugitive Low Taek Jho was akin to an octopus who had global reach in his scheme involving government-owned firm 1Malaysia Development Berhad’s (1MDB) funds.
In Najib’s ongoing trial today, his lawyers sought to highlight Low’s role in the siphoning of hundreds of millions of US dollars from 1MDB unit 1MDB Global Investments Limited’s (1MDB GIL) bank accounts into companies controlled or owned by Low, as part of Najib’s defence against the power abuse and money laundering charges in the trial.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 20 — The over US$2.7 billion deposited in a 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) subsidiary’s bank account in March 2013 dwindled to just US$60,000 within months, with the funds flowing to various companies including those now known to be controlled by fugitive Low Taek Jho and his associates, the High Court heard today.
Mohd Hazem Abd Rahman, the chief executive of 1MDB from March 2013 to early January 2015, confirmed in court that he did not inform the 1MDB board of the status of the funds in the bank account, including when its balance fell to just around US$60,000.

Ex-1MDB CEO has suspicions on illegal activities in 1MDB between Najib, Jho Low

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Former 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) chief executive officer (CEO) told the High Court on Monday (May 17) that he had suspicions that some illegal activities were happening in the company between Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, or Jho Low over the US$3bil (RM12.39bil) bond issuance.
The US$3bil bond issuance involved 1MDB Global Investments Limited (1MDB GIL) to Abu Dhabi-Malaysia Investment Company (ADMIC).
Mohd Hazem Abd Rahman, 47, however, said he never asked Najib, who was the prime minister at that time, to clarify the matter but shared his concern with former 1MDB chairman, Tan Sri Lodin Wok Kamaruddin and Najib’s former principal private secretary, the late Datuk Azlin Alias knowing that they had access to Najib.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 17 — Datuk Seri Najib Razak as the prime minister then was involved in Low Taek Jho’s “nefarious agenda” for 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) when the government-owned firm’s subsidiary raised US$3 billion of funds in 2013, a former 1MDB CEO claimed in court today.
Mohd Hazem Abd Rahman, a former CEO of 1MDB from March 2013 to early January 2015, said this while being cross-examined as the 10th prosecution witness in Najib’s ongoing trial over power abuse and money laundering charges involving more than RM2 billion of 1MDB funds.

Najib's 1MDB trial to resume next Monday (May 3)

KUALA LUMPUR: The RM2.28bil 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) trial involving Datuk Seri Najib Razak will resume on Monday (May 3) after a short break to give way to the SRC International Sdn Bhd appeal.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib confirmed that the hearing before High Court judge Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah will go on for two days next week, May 3 and May 4.
He said former 1MDB CEO Mohd Hazem Abd Rahman, who is the 10th prosecution witness, would continue his testimony on the stand.
The trial was put on hold as Najib's appeal against his conviction and sentence in the SRC International case was being heard at the Court of Appeal beginning April 5.

Malaysia ex-PM Najib wants US to disclose names of bribed 1MDB officials, fails to halt trial

KUALA LUMPUR (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Former Malaysian prime minister Najib Razak had applied to the United States court to obtain the names of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) officials who were bribed by a former partner of Goldman Sachs Group in Asia.
His lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah said their names would help the defence prove that the prosecution witnesses lacked credibility and were merely instruments of fugitive financier Low Taek Jho, the Kuala Lumpur High Court was told. Low, who was perceived to be the mastermind behind the 1MDB scandal, has been in hiding since 2016.
Najib, who faces 42 counts of corruption and money laundering related to the 1MDB scandal, is currently being tried for four criminal charges in bribery totalling RM2.28 billion (S$746.8 million) and 21 other charges of money laundering involving the same amount. He was convicted on seven charges by the Malaysian High Court in July 2020. He is appealing his conviction.

I believe UMNO benefited from 1MDB - Former 1MDB CEO

15 Feb 2021 / 20:27 H.
KUALA
LUMPUR: The former 1Malaysia Development Berhad chief executive officer (CEO) said he still believed that UMNO had benefited from the sovereign wealth fund despite the absence of evidence of monies being sent to the political party.
Mohd Hazem Abd Rahman, 47, told the High Court here today that although the idea of 1MDB existed purely to service UMNO might sound insane, he believed it as this was conveyed by fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho or Jho Low to him in the presence of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s (

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 9 — Low Taek Jho’s name was not mentioned in 1Malaysia Development Board (1MDB) board meetings but his instructions were instead described as “PMO” or the Prime Minister’s Office, the company’s former CEO Mohd Hazem Abd Rahman told the court today.
Testifying as the 10th prosecution witness in Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s trial involving over RM2 billion of 1MDB funds, Hazem said that Low “knew” about 1MDB’s internal information, but acknowledged that he would have no problem sharing such information with Low.
