There could be another delay to the interim service of Honolulu s rail project. Interim rail authority executive director Lori Kahikina told city council members that during a budget review of the semi-autonomous agency.
Kahikina says there is an issue with the wheels of a car and a section called a frog.
On the train, when we have to cross rails, for whatever reasons, it s called a frog. It s where the tracks cross, Kahikina said.

HART Requests Lobbyists Amid Funding Issues

HONOLULU The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation has issued proposal requests to hire a federal lobbyist and a board consultant to lobby officials.
The organization responsible for creating Honolulu s rail line faces a project shortfall of about $3 billion, HART interim CEO Lori Kahikina said Wednesday.
HART said it plans on spending about $1 million over the next several years on federal lobbyists. The organization added that it is planning on hiring the lobbyists to raise funding for the financially plagued rail system.
I did not initiate this, but I am in full support of this because any support we can get is needed, Kahikina said. ....

Mayor Kirk Caldwell believes Lori Kahikina is perfect to lead the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation. On Monday, HART announced Kahikina will be interim Executive Director and CEO of the semi-autonomous agency starting later this week.
Kahikina leads the city s Department of Environmental Services, which oversees Oahu s wastewater and trash.
Caldwell says he has never discussed or given his thoughts on HART s personnel decisions. But he praised the announcement yesterday, saying she is the right person for the job at this time.
She knows how to relocate utilities in our roads throughout this island and she does it well and she knows how to acquire property when that s necessary to rebuild our sewer system, Caldwell said. ....
