HomeBuilder applicants to get second chance at grant after backflip
Calls for help from hundreds of distraught HomeBuilder applicants who say they unfairly missed out on the lucrative grant due to technical issues have been heeded after a backflip from the Victorian and Queensland state governments.
As first reported by nine.com.au earlier this month, a growing number of applicants thought they had successfully applied for the $15,000-$25,000 Federal Government grant through an online portal.
However, when they attempted to log back into the portal to submit further documents after the April 14 cut-off date, they found there was no record of their accounts. ....

The HomeBuilder construction boom has created a ticking time bomb as surging costs of material and labour cuts profit margins in the building sector to the bone.
Master Builders Queensland deputy chief executive Paul Bidwell says the surge in new home projects sparked by HomeBuilder grants could send more builders to the wall as the price of everything from timber and pipes to plumbers and roofing contractors increases.
Bidwell s comments come after award-winning Brisbane builder PlanBuild collapsed earlier this week leaving 40 projects around the city unfinished.
He says the average cost of a $300,000 new home in south-east Queensland could increase by up to $30,000, which in many cases could not be passed onto customers by builders. Materials make up about 60 per cent of a building s costs wi ....

FIRST-HOME buyers are continuing to lap up the Federal Government’s extended HomeBuilder Grant despite the recent $10,000 cutback to the scheme.
Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack made the revelation on Thursday while touring the site of a new housing development at Ripley.
He was accompanied by Senator Paul Scarr, who revealed applications for the grant had doubled since the three-month extension was announced last December.
Initially set to conclude December 31, the grant will now wind up March 31.
The original $25,000 payment for first home buyers was first was announced in June 2020 in a bid to help revive the struggling sector amid COVID-19. ....
