Residents in a care home were surprised with a free ice cream from an ice cream truck last week.
On Thursday (April 22), which was a lovely hot sunny day, local ice cream man Michael Stead came to offer some much needed encouragement and free cones to the Hollies Care Home in Clayton-le-Moors.
After over a year of lockdowns, care home residents have been heavily affected by the virus, being locked away for most of the year due to their susceptibility to the illness.
Michael, son of care home resident Lucy Stead, wanted to recognise the care staff who have been delivering services to his mother and the rest of the care homes residents through lockdown. ....

Specsavers Accrington: Tablet donation helps Hollies Care Home residents see loved ones

RESIDENTS at The Hollies Care Home in Accrington are seeing in a merry Christmas and a happy new year with their new digital tablet gifted to them by a local Specsavers store earlier this year.
The Hollies Care Home, which specialises in many forms of care including nursing dementia, respite, and daycare, said that over the course of this year the tablet has helped residents at the home to make countless video calls to family members, which has been ‘invaluable to them during these difficult times.’
To raise the funds for the tablet, staff from Specsavers Accrington held a fundraiser and walked more than 75,000 steps between them in their spare time, managing to raise £300 via their Go Fund Me page. ....
