Gordon Road apartments to house working, low-income residents


A new affordable housing project is looking to build along Gordon Road. 
Plans for Estrella Landing, an 84-unit affordable housing development, are moving forward after the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved rezoning the site.
The April 5 action by the board changed the zoning of the roughly five-acre wooded lot from an R-15 residential district to a residential multi-family moderate density designation. The proposed development, located at 4615 Gordon Road, would consist of 84 apartment units within three three-story buildings, a club house, resident community space, a playground and a covered picnic area with grills.
The apartments will include 13 single-bedroom units, 35 two-bedroom units, and 36 three-bedroom units, Stephanie Norris, a tax credit developer with Terroir Development, told commissioners. ....

Chesterfield budget proposal includes increased BPOL threshold
Chesterfield County Administrator Joe Casey presented his proposal for the county’s fiscal year 2022 budget last week.
The $806.8 million general fund features $344.7 million in local funding to the school district, as well as $226.8 million in capital improvements that include $19 million for sidewalk upgrades. The proposed general fund for FY22 is an increase of $84.9 million (11.7 percent) compared to the adopted FY21 budget.
The budget would increase the collection threshold for the business and occupation license (BPOL) tax, upping it to $400,000 from $300,000 effective July 1. In doing so, more than 6,400 small- and medium-sized businesses would be exempt from the tax, according to the county. ....
