He's also vowing to conduct a thorough investigation to reveal the truth of one of the darkest periods in Korea's modern history.
Hong Yoo reports.
With a siren ringing out for a minute across Korea's southern island of Jeju, people stood in silent tribute to remember the victims of the Jeju April 3rd incident.
Seventy-three years on, the South Korean government on Saturday was finally able to comfort the victims, the survivors and the bereaved families.
Officials say their honor was restored through the revised Jeju April 3rd Special Act that passed the National Assembly earlier this year.
