The Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center reported at 7:39 p.m. Thursday that an "avalanche incident" occurred near Stevens Peak and that rescue was ongoing at the time. An hour later, the sheriff's office announced that a search was underway for "three individuals who were caught in an avalanche."
