Hundreds of gathered outside the white house President Trump has come under fire for his continued critical comments about the protests but john hendren joins us live now from minneapolis john so we saw all these extra 1000 troops being brought into the city last night tell us whats been happening on the streets today. Well in the daytime theyre not out and theyre not really needed because the protests in the daytime are relatively peaceful you can see here people have created a circle of flowers at the site where george for later died over there under the red stoplight that that is where he lay as police lay on his back and what is going to happen is during the day weve had peaceful protests in the evening after her few things tend to get a little more raucous so that curfew begins at 8 pm thats about an hour from now local time and it is after that last night that the presence of the National Guard was really felt now theyre not the frontline troops what what they do with with a fountain of them now added a total of 1700. 00 they troll the perimeters they escort fire trucks that sort of thing that frees up the police to control the crowds and the police have been unable to do that for several nights so youve seen fires and looting late at night but last night an hour after curfew the police moved in heavy heavy use of tear gas and rubber bullets we got a whiff of that and saw some of those rubber pellets whiz past us as that happened took about 15 minutes for them to clear a space where thousands of protesters had gathered and then police pretty much held that night from there on there were no large gatherings that we could see or that we saw reported after that so the presence of the National Guard has really apparently made a difference the governor was embarrassed the other night and he said he was overwhelmed that he didnt want to see that happen again clearly. And those police as i say dear were really aggressive all right so many. States of curfew of people like you then to adhere to the stay off the streets or. In short you know weve been told by protesters that they will be out in the street theyll be out probably in the fountains as they have been before the question is whether the police can do what they did the night before and control them some of the protesters have told us that one of the one of the things that they have done when there is destruction of business ive asked a few people why does that happen and they say theyve tried to target major corporations not Small Businesses and that theyre trying to send a message and they believe its been kind of affective in this sense an officer was was arrested and charged with murder in relatively record time just a few days after george ford was killed usually those things take weeks but of course independent businesses have been hit i did see protesters stop someone who was targeting a building where there were apartments above there were some organized leaders who came in and stopped that from happening but some of those independent businesses have been hit we spoke to one and this is what she had to say. The fire when i saw 2 nights ago it was just it was a trek it was like a trauma that was just like checked again for me you know and i have put that away in my life long long time ago and right away i told my mom this is a war zone this feels just like a war zone right now me and my sisters and my brothers and my mom have been out in our business for the past 4 nights asking people this is black owned business please dont destroy this is a minority business please dont do this to us and john there are allegations that activists and agitates us from outside of the city a coming in to stoke on the rest so what are you seeing and hearing. Well there could be some of that going on in the governor initially said that it was outside agitators in his words who had come in but in fact the Police Released numbers and 80 percent of the people who have been arrested according to the police themselves are minnesotans and about 20 percent have been from out of state so that gives you an idea of whats going on here events like this do tend to draw people from out of state whether those people are organized protesters or not we simply dont know the answer to that but most of the people out here most of the people we talked to say they are from minnesota many athletes who are from this area so thats what were seeing right now interestingly enough george boyd is being buried not here but according to the mayor of Houston Texas that is where his Memorial Services will be held that is because thats where he considered a home having moved from here his family havent released details about that john but thats what we are to talk to john hendren day in minneapolis john thank you. Meanwhile in atlanta 2 Police Officers have been fired for using Excessive Force on protesters the citys police chief said members of her force cant be allowed to act with impunity i think is Law Enforcement if we are ever going to get. Out of this face that we are in today we have to recognize that our behaviors cannot consistently be pardoned because we are Law Enforcement. These these are good guys i know them as individuals ive worked with one for over 20 years. But they made that level of mistake that cannot be rolled back all right so lets see some pictures now of the incident in question a group of riot police swarmed around a car and arrested a couple inside local reporters who shot the video say police broke the window and flattened the tires the couple dont appear to be resisting but despite this they were forcibly pulled out of the car and hunk of on the ground lets join the live in Miami Florida a and b. So whats the latest there regarding the arrest of 5 policemen over that incident in atlanta from last night. Well it seems to be a pretty swift action and condemnation on the point of the leaders in atlanta we heard from the men earlier in the chief of police who said look this is simply not acceptable Law Enforcement officers are not above the law and if you watch the video it certainly looks like Excessive Force one of the policeman slashing the tie with a knife one of the passengers inside being tasered and theyve taken pretty quick action 2 of those offices have been fired the other 3 are on desk duty as i assume that an investigation will begin and this is the kind of thing that people are looking for in their leaders right now thats how sensitive this situation is but it seems like in atlanta at least where there were over 100 arrests on saturday night and it was some sporadic looting and clashes between protesters and police they have taken very quick action whether that will settle things down in the state of georgia where a mob or a was of course killed by 2 white men just a few weeks ago who seemed to corral him on themselves and then the local authorities really washed their hands of the whole thing but once again it was video that changed everything i read a quote earlier that that seems to ring true that racism hasnt gone away its just simply being filmed now that is quite a crucial thing to what were seeing going on across the country but for atlanta or at least which is a very important africanamerican city the authorities there said look this is enough if Police Officers take these kinds of actions and is seen to be Excessive Force they will face consequences so so thats the situation then the in atlanta lets talk about Miami Florida where you are and yesterday we saw violence and unrest on the streets so just bring us up to date whats happening today on the. Well the curfew is now in place there and its been in place for the for the last few minutes but ive heard reports there are hundreds perhaps even thousands of people in downtown miami who last night surrounded the main Police Station here and said at least one car on fire those people will need to disperse and not to get arrested because there were 56 arrests a last night most of those people were arrested for disobeying the curfew in Fort Lauderdale weve got a similar situation with a few 100 protesters there facing off against police but one report suggests that a Police Officer actually took the need and the protesters were really excited about but i about what he did there but lets think about the significance of that calling captain nick who is a professional american football was criticized widely by the right wing in this country for taking the need touring games he was called unpatriotic many other people saw that as differently saw him using his position of power to to really. And that was what really launched the black lives Matter Movement so all of this really resonates with the Africanamerican Community here in this state and of course hes not the only one whos been gunned down by a Police Officer in this state cory jones who pulled over on the side of the road was also shot and then of course a model break in georgia just a few weeks ago thats a case that still unfolding but the anger here is certainly still continuing although it seems to be at the moment a little more peaceful than it was last night all right under gallica there live for us from Miami Florida andy thank you for that. Or lets go to new york theres been criticism of the Police Response often calm was seen running demonstrators on saturday the citys mayor bill de blasio says an investigation will take place and it is not the way things are supposed to be there will be a full investigation into discipline as necessary there will be but do not present only one side of the picture i looked at those videos i saw people converging on the Police Vehicle i saw people throwing things at the Police Vehicle that is not peaceful protests so lets not kid ourselves if you anyone else was inside that Police Vehicle surrounded by people you would have had a really tough decision to make you cant stay there you cant get out of the vehicle you have to get yourself and the vehicle out of the situation safely for all. As people are peacefully protesting they just had a protest in union square behind me and now some about a couple 100 protesters are moving down the street but as you can tell this here and union square was where a lot of the worst of it took place with some rioting and some burning of some police cars but as you can see for the most part its been very peaceful all day d in new york the police have shown much much more restraint that he saw the last 2 nights and thats an interesting point you make gay because as you were telling us hundreds of people were arrested last night in the city so what level of policing and security could we see in the coming hours. Yet its been its nightfall is about to hit here in new york city but so far what weve seen and weve been out all day for the most part is weve seen a much much smaller Police Presence yes police around you see them right behind me there theyre just following this group of protesters but theyre not taking any sort of strong aggressive action now just a couple hours ago we saw a huge protest right in the heart of times square take a look at that. And gave just very quickly new york is still the epicenter of the coronavirus the city supposed to be shut down but now you have this rather strange confluence of protests amid the lockdown. Well Vice President biden went too long to one of the protest site sit in a wilmington notably he was wearing a mask unlike his contender in the president ial election later this year but significantly to whether intentionally or by accident he knelt down while talking to one of the protesters now in his tweet he says that we have got to listen to the protesters as i am doing here it was clearly a conscious decision to tweet this particular photograph now this is very significant to potentially if this is an intentional act by the Vice President he is in a sense mimicking the taking the knee that was done by black athletes in protest against Police Brutality in previous years and certainly the image that the Vice President chose to tweet out will certainly spark reaction among people who would recognize it as a ping directly those actions taken by a black athletes against Police Brutality it was something that the President Donald Trump was absolutely vehemently opposed to and certainly this is likely to provoke some reaction from the white house might let me get a final thought from you Bigger Picture now how is this playing out politically for the president i mean hes at odds as you were telling us earlier with many of the states and local governors and mayors over the protests hes facing heavy criticism of the administrations coded 1000 response and now we have these nationwide protests.
