We last checked in on Baylor Associate Dean Leah Witcher Jackson Teague in February, when she was telling students impacted by the “Winterpocalypse” that stripped millions of Texans of power and, by extension, internet access, that they had better show up for virtual class or be marked with unexcused absences. Ultimately, the law school reversed course and canceled classes “[i]n light of the university’s decision.” You know things have gotten real when you’re making worse decisions than the Baylor University administration.
Now it’s her husband’s turn to grab the spotlight! After Baylor won the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament — a troubling outcome in itself since the program literally covered up a murder and suffered no serious competitive consequences over it — Teague’s husband Ted, the GM of the Allen Samuels dealership in Waco, offered to donate a custom Jeep to head coach Scott Drew. Do car giveaways to already highly compensated coaches seem problematic in a sports regime that strips players of any access to pay for their labor? Go back to Russia, you commie! Or, in this case, go back to the Supreme Court, which looks poised to finally break up the NCAA’s disgraceful free labor profit engine.
