On the stage and defending your record. We have got to choose right, we have got to win and somebody that will be able to serve two terms. Picket in front of the white house in washington, d. C. Thats really why the protest needs to be. A nation without borders is not a nation. We have to secure the Southern Border. Thats not true. Chinas the real enemy. As the u. N. Ambassador you literally bring it. You got bad information. Rather than creating clarity, it creates more of a muddle for voters. There will be a lot of pressure to kick somebody off the island. Seven candidates were on stage. The one who was not, donald trump, may have benefitted the most of all. Good morning. It is the top of the hour. We are glad you are with us, especially if you stayed up late watching the debate last night. At the end, no one wanted to vote anyone else off the island. One person did. We will talk to him shortly. Five minutes. Most did not want to. Yet again, the gops frontrunner donald trump was not there. He wasnt on the stage. Today trump will be the focus of a major speech by President Biden as they head towards a likely rematch for 2024. Biden will be sending a stark warning about trumps looming threat to democracy. Meanwhile, House Republicans are set to hold the first hearing of their Impeachment Investigation and this is all happening with the Government Shutdown just days away, two days away to be precise, and government running out of money. A big day ahead in politics. Lets begin with harry enten. Good morning. Good morning. Biden focused on trump as his likely opponent. What do the polls show . Look, if we look at last nights debate, who was the most searched candidate on google . Donald trump who was 2,000 miles away. And, you know, he was 2,000 miles away, yet he was not most searched candidate. Here is the big reason why. Look at this. Who are the top choices for the gop nominee . Donald trump 58 going into that debate. Well ahead of the rest of the political pack on the republican side. Of course, i think there was a real question going in as well about the Vivek Ramaswamy, the top choice excuse me, the top most searched candidate in the first debate. Where did he land the second debate . He landed here. He was the second most candidate during the debate and often attacked and i believe we have some sound of that attack. Lets listen to it. This is infuriating. Tiktok is one of the most dangerous Social Media Apps we could have, and what you have got, i honestly every time i hear you, i feel a little bit dumber for what you say. I think we would be better served as a Republican Party if we are not sitting here hurling personal insults and actually have a legitimate debate im about policy i listen to that. Im really appreciating the nikki haley thing because of references to past lives. But the idea of ramaswamy going back and forth, there is there is a shift in the tone. Where does this leave him at this point . I think there are a few things going on. First off, if you noticed, and as i said, a lot of folks were attacking Vivek Ramaswamy and it seems to have made an impact. It wasnt just last night. It was in the leadup to last night. Before the first debate we saw ramaswamy seem to have some momentum in the polls. He was up to 9 . He started at 0 . Look where he now. 5 . It seems to me that a lot of republicans are recognizing how to attack Vivek Ramaswamy. You heard in that clip about tiktok. Do republicans think that tiktok is a threat to Americas National security . Look at this. 70 of republicans say, yes, it is. So i think there is going to be more attacks on ramaswamy Going Forward if they believe he is a threat between trump and those other candidates. Its problematic for your dance career on tiktok, as well. I mean, you know, thats why ill stick to instagram. Thank you. In trumps absence, Chris Christie took the time to address the noshow frontrunner directly. Donald you know you are watching. I know you are watching, okay . And youre not here tonight, not because of polls and not because of your indictments. You are not here tonight because youre afraid of being on this stage and defend kg your record. Youre ducking these things. And let mitole you whats gonna happen. You keep doing that, no one up heres Gonna Call You donald trump anymore. We are going to call you donald duck. Former governor of new jersey Chris Christie, good morning, governor. Good morning. How are you . Good. Thank you. We watched you do that last night. But trump doesnt seem to be affected at all in the polling. I will grant you where he is in New Hampshire. More broadly, by not showing up at these debates. Why should he attend if he feels like he has the voters support anyways . First off, as we have gone back and forth any number of times, i could tell you that National Polls dont matter because we dont have a national primary. In New Hampshire, trump is well below 40 and i am gaining on him, as are a number of other candidates. The reason he belongs there is much bigger than polls or his 91 counts of indictment. He his owes it to the Republican Party voters to show up. He owes it to them to show up because there are a lot of questions on the stage last night about his record and a lot of accusations about his record and his failures as the president of the United States. But he wants the job back. He needs to make those arguments. He is unwilling to show up because he is afraid. He is afraid to defend that record. All of the other bluster and his fake rally yesterday in detroit where they were bringing in, you know, trump volunteers to act as if they were auto workers is just another part of the scam, the grift, the fraud that is donald trump and his campaign. Governor, i am sure you will be shocked to know that the former president has responded to you on truth social saying in parks Chris Christie is talking about the job he did as governor. 89 approval rating. New jersey wanted it throw the bum to out. Talks about his border wall and safest and best border in u. S. History. Your response to that . Well, look, the guy said i was on the stage when he did it, that he was going to build a big beautiful wall across the entire border of the United States and mexico and mexico was going to pay for it. And all you need to do is go to the website and take a look. The government website. It shows 52 miles of new wall. He rebuilt some other parts of wall, but new wall. 52 new miles. At that pace, hed only need 110 more years as president to finish the wall and mexico did pay for it. I had fun last night by saying if mexico knew we were only doing to build 52 miles of wall under donald trump, maybe they would have paid for it t he is a Snake Oil Sales man. All he does all the time is lie about what he has done or hasnt done. I think that the American People are going to get tired of it as we get towards voting. Remember, no voting will happen until january 15 in iowa and soon thereafter in New Hampshire. We will be ready to take him out when that moment comes. Governor, you brought up trumps speech in detroit last night. He and the president went to talk to auto workers and show that there is a lot of focus on the uaw strike. I am interested in whether you agree with President Biden who said yes yesterday when he was asked if he supports a 40 Wage Increase for the union auto workers. Do you support that Wage Increase . No, i dont support a 40 Wage Increase. Why . Let me tell you what i smore. I support well, i will tell you what i to support. Since i dont support that, i think its too much. What i will tell you is that i think people should be paid based upon how hard they work, their expertise and the excellence they bring to their job every day. I think the union is hurting itself by asking to be paid for 40 hour workweek and only work 32 hours. They are hurting themselves in that direction. The American People want them to be paid and to be paid fairly and competitively, but they dont want them to be paid for not working. Those kinds of demands color that 40 request for an increase and color it in a bad way. I want them to be paid a competitive wage and paid a wage that helps them to support their families in the style which they want to become accustomed to and deserve to become accustomed to. But 40 is too high. Nobody in the country is getting that. One last thing. You know, we wouldnt be the ceo is the fact that joe bidens inflation we will get on other topics. The ceos of those Auto Companies are getting that kind of raise. Thats what its based on over the last four years, but we will move on. What i wanted to ask you, i followed you around New Hampshire in 2016. New hampshire was a focus back then. Its a focus now as well. The analogues are feel a little bit nor palpable about a big race, a big field, and people refusing to drop out and, therefore, nobody coalesces. Have you had discussion with the other candidates or republicans outside of the Campaign Space about having people drop out should people be dropping out right now . I love the fact that guys in the media like you, and you know, phil, i like you, but, you know, you guys have never run for anything. You want to tell everybody when they are supposed to drop out. I mean, fact is, this campaign is competitive and thats why i thought last night, you know, everybody up there was trying to make the best argument they could to try to distinguish their candidacy. People drop out when money runs out. People drop out when they dont see any pathway to winning. I am in second plates in New Hampshire. So you bet your rear end im not dropping out. Governor, i am not talking about you specifically. I am saying given where you are and where you think you are and where you think you can be, if there are six other people in this race, you have a Problem Coalescing the support that you would need to overtake over time. Thats just a reality, i think, and youre politically savvy individual and i wonder if you talked to other people about getting out of the race. I am. No. I have not approached any of the other candidates and asked them to get out race. For anybody who has run for office, they know thats not the way works. If one of your competitors says, hey, drop out so it makes it easier for me to win, thats not the right way to approach it. Folks need to come to their own conclusions and reality about their own situation. I would say this. It is a lot better situation than it was eight years ago when you tried to make that analogy. At point eight years ago at the Reagan Library debate there were still 17 people in the race. There are now seven. This time. Give it some time. You all want to rush all this. You want to run polls that rush us to get out race. You want trump biden . We should all drop out now. Then we see that 7 to of the American People dont want trump biden. So why dont we take the time to run a Real Campaign . I have been in this race for three months. Look, i think when people look at that debate stage last night, phil, you know, what they see, if i wasnt up there, no one would be taking on donald trump directly. And honestly. Not just his failure to be there and his failures in defending our constitution, but his failures substantively as president of the United States. Now the rnc has under the requirements 40 . You need 40 more donors between now and november 8 to stay on the stage. You want somebody who is going to fight trump in go to Chris Christie. Com and donate a dollar. Make sure i stay on that stage. Last night when you were speaking about education and Teachers Unions, you took a swipe at the first lady, dr. Jill biden. Here is that moment. When you have the president of the United States sleeping with a member of the Teachers Union, there is no chance that you could take the stranglehold away from the Teachers Union every day. They have an advocate inside the white house every day for the worst of the teachers, not for the students to be the best they cank. Why did you say that, that way . Because i, like other people, have looked at the most recent book that was put out about President Biden and it talked very, very specifically about how jill biden told randi weingarten, i told you would have an advocate in the white house for you starting day one when they moved into the white house. Thats the history. Jill biden has been a radical it advocate for the worst in the Teachers Union. And thats why i brought it up because no one else willing to say it. But the truth is that jill biden is advocating for the worst, for Keeping Schools closed in covid despite the fact her husband said he would have them opened within 100 days of his presidency and he didnt do that because of the pressure from his wife and from randi weingarten. All topics that are worth addressing. My question was the wording that you chose to use, a number of people thats the truth, is isnt it . Not just women waking up this morning or watching last night found it concerning. Congresswoman alexandria ocasiocortez said it was disgusting, misogynistic and if republicans want to a nation of wording, you are standing by the wording. I am. Being called disgusting by a hypocrite like ocasiocortez is the highlight of my day so far. Since its 4 44 in the morning, thats great. When you look at the kind of hypocrite she is, the kind of things she does and lives her life as, as opposed to what comes out of her mouth, please, id be happy to be accused of anything by aoc. Governor Chris Christie, it is early there. Thank you for getting up early to talk to us. See you soon. I didnt even know what time it was. 5 14. You were close. Thank you. Not bad. Not bad. See you later. Nikki haley taking aim at the republican frontrunner who skipped the debate last night. How the Trump Campaign respondnded overnight. Senators unanimously passing a resolution officially requiring requiring Business Attire on the floor after senator John Fettermans casual dress. His offices one mean statement ahead. Ron desantis is against fracking, against drilling. You did it. 12 years, where have you been . Where have you been, tim . We have waited and nothing has happened. A win for russia is a win for a win for russia is win for china. Excuse me, excuse me, excuse me, youll have youll have nikki haley going after opponents on stage last night. She has been rising in the polls since the first debate t it appears the Trump Campaign is paying attention. They september out an email Last Night Attacking Haley and her record. Talk about what happened and more with cnn Political Commentator david axlerod, adam kinzinger, oddi, they wanted to be sort of in the mold of reagan. The Ronald Reagan national library, et cetera. You say they were in the shadow of trump. Mine, its hard to have these conversations about reagan at this point. Adam can probably talk to this more. But the person who granted amnesty or the person who, like, fired air traffic controllers. But not much of what they had to say is actually within the realm of that era of conservatism. So what you have a lot of people bickering about nonsense because the stakes are really low. Its not clear that there is a cohesive coherent posttrump policy. If it is in existence, it wasnt on stage. The starkest thing was on ukraine. Can you imagine what Ronald Reagan would have said about some of the things that were said about ukraine on there . I think the big the Big Loser Last Night was whoever had to operate the closedcaption machine because how do you distinguish between all those people yelling at each other . I dont think it was a lack of urgency or stakes that created that. I think it was the opposite. I think time is wasting here, and they are all vying to be the breakout person. Stakes for themselves. Not the country. Right . Like, the urgency was there for them. Granted. The echoes of a party that lets say half the candidates up there, the tim scotts, nikki haleys, the Chris Christies. Echoes of a party that i kind of feel an affection for still. That is not the zeitgeist of the party anymore. The Republican Party in 58 of republicans support donald trump, of the candidates up there, a good half will probably default to donald trump if their candidate of choice, if ron desantis was out. So its a concern. I am glad there were people like nikki haley up there, like Chris Christie who are going to tell the truth. This is a message that for those of us that still kind of believe someday the gop can be what it was again. I hate looking back. Something different, but, like, less dark, it that those are the messages that need to get out. What i saw last night was tim scott going after nikki haley and they were each hitting each other in completely asinine issues that nobody cares about. 50,000 curtains and some vote in the senate. They know each other. They have campaigned side by side. Served in the legislature together. It got creepy personal in a way. Chris christie i think was a truth tell early. Pence, i didnt even know he was up there. Its not going to change anything. Vivek, by the way, i did love seeing nikki haley say that we all are dumber now quoting Billy Madison . Yeah. Perfect. Yeah. Thank you, appreciate that. On nikki haley, i think this was yesterday, the days are very long at this point when you have debates and things like that. This was a moment nikki haley had some momentum out of the last debate. We played the sound. She was willing to fight and battle. Is it this is the thing i cant quite get my head around s it enough . I know where you are going with this and i want to stop you. Almost feels irrelevant. Me or never, never. Sorry. Because i think trumps speech was far nor interesting why . Because he was talking. He was doing a general election pivot in a way that i think was striking. Going to michigan, trying to reach out to reagan democrats, right. Thats being in the shadow of reagan, and trying to create a wedge between Union Leadership and Union Members and trying to stakeout some unground nor that particular voter. Thats looking to the general election. He also in his comments said, do you see a vp on stage . I dont. That was a red flag to me. Who was he looking at and what will that person do on a day when they have to certify elections . Yeah. No. I think the choice of the venue was brilliant, but the fundamental purpose of this was to say this deals over. Those people are irrelevant, and by belittling them as unworthy of the Vice Presidency he is further belittling them. What was interesting about his speech, he didnt talk about his cases, the last election. In his own sort of free form weird way, he stuck to the topic that he went there to talk about. Go ahead. I was going to say i, as a republican in illinois, got a lot of eun overturn support. Painters, carpenters, laborers, right . Even the unions that didnt support me officially, their members i would say approaching 30 to 40 , there is a unique Republican Union thing in illinois. But this idea that Union Leadership now determines how the unions vote is completely off the table now. Union leaderships decide where the money goes, but not the members. David, to the good point. To the point that you just made about trump last night didnt talk about the cases, didnt talk about the last election, regardless of the policies that were in the last trump term that did not benefit these union workers, the promise your jobs are coming back, they didnt and the plant closed. If he keeps doing this is this a problem for biden . The fact that apologized went to michigan and marched on that picket line was a direct response to the fact that donald trump was going to be there the next day and he understands that there is a bat for these voters. So, yes, i think it is what adam says is absolutely true. I mean, this has been a longstanding challenge since reagan for democrats, and trump speaks to that blue collar, frankly, white, mostly white voter, although he is making some inroads elsewhere. Yeah, this is going to be a challenge. Let me just despite the record . Yes, despite the record. Listen, if donald trump were held accountable for the record, he would be out of the game. His one of his superpowers is that he manages to evade accountability for his record. But to reframe, its an Inflection Point for us culturally. While Union Membership is kind of not up overall, Labor Actions are. 300,000 workers went on some kind of strike or labor action this year, which means people look at them differently. Its not Big Bad Labor is the problem. And both candidates realize that this is a constituency to court once again. For a long time for republican they were only the boogeyman. Its interesting as a country we are looking at the worker again as a constituency to be supported. Stick around. I actually want to continue this. I thank you for calling me irrelevant so we could pivot into a good discussion on this. Just try to get out of the debate discussion, i know. Pretty naked about it. Stick around. We are coming back to you guys in a little bit. The senate floor has a formal dress code. Passing a resolution wednesday requiring Business Attire on the floor. The most important thing from the country. Chuck schumer decided to stop enforcing an unwret u written code. Manu raju caught up with fetterman to get his reaction. Dont we have a lot of really, really, really, really, really more important things we should be addressing here about the senate . No one has directly come to me and said, you know, the world will burn if you, you know, wear a hoodie. I am not wearing, you know, hoodies on the floor as well, too. I have maintained to just do the, you know, from the door and it was never my plan to do that. Fetterman also says he doesnt mind if the staff dresses down because congressional staffers arent paid well. After the vote, fettermans Office Issued a statement. Thats the statement. It was just the viral meme kevin james. Seems like a good statement. There you have it. Formaler Vice President pence going after his former boss saying donald trump is trying to consolidate more power in the white house. He will join us. We will ask him about all big moments from last nights debate. And Will Taylor Swift attend sunday nights chiefs game against the jets . Already taking over the internet. We will address it. You know you want to. Youre probably not easily persuaded to switch mobile providers for your business. But what if we told you its possible that comcast Business Mobile can save you up to 75 a year on your wireless bill versus the big three carriers . Its true. Plus, when you buy your first line of mobile, you get a second line free. There are no Term Contracts or line activation fees. And you can bring your own device. Oh, and all on the most reliable 5g Mobile Network nationwide. Wireless that works for you. Its not just possible. Its happening. My former running mate, donald trump, actually has a plan to start to consolidate more power in washington, d. C. , consolidate more power in the executive branch. When im president of the United States, its my intention to make the federal government smaller. We are going to revive federalism in america and states are going to help bring america back. That was former Vice President mike pence going after his former boss. It was pences latest attempt to distance himself from former president donald trump. The former Vice President joins us now. Sir, i appreciate you waking up this morning. What was interesting is i tried to kind of watch the debate, get my head around who was saying what and when, which i assume is difficult on the stage, too. The debate last night is viewed as an opportunity, Inflection Point some degree for some republicans. Do you feel like it broke through at all . Well, look, it was a privilege to be here at the Reagan Library. I became a republican because of Ronald Reagan. And i was drawn to this party because of a set of principles, a commitment to strong defense, American Leadership in the world, fiscal responsibility and the right to life and traditional values. And the opportunity to be here and tro try to lay out when i think is a republican time for choosing in the days ahead that really from Ronald Reagan all the way through our administration we governed on that conservative agenda. But, frankly, donald trump and some his imitators on the stage last night are walking away from that agenda, walking away from American Leadership in the world, talking the language of appeasement, prepared to ignore the national debt. Donald trumps advocating an enormous tax increase on goods coming into our country and shying away from and even, as donald trump in the last week, criticizing legislation to protect the unborn. I want my fellow republicans to know that if youre looking for a consistent, conservative who will lead our party and lead our country on a foundation that our party has led over the last 40 years i am your man. Mr. Vice president , what about the last several months and i bring this up because we spoke after you had i think a significant speech about the point you were just making, how the party has to make a decision at this point. In the weeks since then, what has made you think that your message is the one that people want . You lay out your message. Its very detailed and you have a lot of history and a record to back it up. None of it seems to have broken through at this point. Well, i honestly think its still early in the process. I think i am actually in the polls about where Rick Santorum was when he won iowa, where Mike Huckabee was when he won iowa, and so, you know, were just going to keep our head down and keep carrying that message because i am absolutely convinced that the majority of republican primary voters still believe that that timehonored conservative agenda. They want to see america leading the world with a Strong National defense, see fiscal responsibility and less taxes, and they want to stand for traditional values. With they look at may record they will see of all the people on that stage, i am not most qualified and most consistent conservative. And i think thats why people are going to our website Miles Per Hour 2024. Com, making contributions, working our hearts out to earn the support of the people of this party and ult long ultimately the people of this country. Why are you convinced of that . What is the evidence that you are feeling, seeing, experiencing on a daytoday basis that convinces you, despite i am not talking about your polls or the race polls. I am talking about subject matter polls where people are on policy inside the primary. It just doesnt track with that. Well, phil, i know, look, in your line of work youve got to go off the polls. I go off people. I go off people that are coming out to our town Hall Meetings on very short notice. I talk to people on the street. You know, people coming up to us and really looking at us and saying in a very heartfelt way, thank you for running, thank you for what you stand for. They appreciate our faith. They appreciate our family, our commitment to the conservative cause. And so, you know, i have run a few times, elected six times to congress, one time as governor, one time as Vice President , and i think i got a pretty good feel for whats happening on the street. I think i like our chances come january 15 iowa caucus and we will work our hearts out to continue to build support. I mentioned you had a resume. It includes electoral victories for sure. You made the point about the former president wants to consolidate power the executive branch. Some of the things he has been saying. It made me think of a recent tweet he had or whatever we call his Social Media Postings these days about mark milley, suggesting that to some degree he deserved execution for what happened. Milley responded. Listen to what he said. Much as these comments directed at me, its directed the institution of the military and this 2. 1 million of tus in uniform. Are you worried about your safety . I have adequate safety precautions. I wish those comments had not been made, but they were. We will take appropriate measures to ensure my safety and the safety my family. Mr. Vice president , you experienced threats. You also experienced the ambivalence of the former president when threats were made and verbalized related to your life. Whats your response to that. There is no call for that average directed towards someone who wore the uniform. United states and served with such distinction. I havent agreed with every decision that the chairman of the joint chiefs made p but i am sure most of those came out of the Biden Administration pushing their Political Correctness and woke politics at the pentagon. I think one of the things that i wish we had have gotten to last night, phil, is that i think the American People are literally exhausted by american Politics Today and they long for us to restore a threshold of civility in public life. One of the things that i hear is that people know that i put a high premium on civility and on speaking in a respectful way, even when we disagree. I keep it on policy, not on personal invective. And i think its one of the reasons why i grow more confident by the day that we are going to turn the page on this difficult and divisive time in our nation and find ways to actually come together and solve some of the problems that have been, you know, burdening the American People for many years. All right. Former Vice President mike pence, appreciate your time, sir. Thank you. Thank you, phil. All right. Happening today, President Biden is going to give a major address warning against on going threats to the countrys democracy and what he sees as Donald Trumps central role those threats. And david culver shows us along a Strtreacherous Journey E people are making to the United States. The reason we are walking with them, some are trying to hurry up, is because they are trying to go around a migration checkpoint. Happening today, President Biden heading to arizona to deliver a major speech on, quote, threats to democracy. In the president expect today highlight the contrast between himself and former President Trump ahead of their potential 2024 rematch as House Republicans prepare to hold their first Impeachment Inquiry Hearing in an hour. A spokesperson for the House Oversight Committee Told cnn that the 10 00 a. M. Hearing is expected to focus on the constitutional and legal questions republicans are raising about biden. House gop has made Hunter Bidens Business Dealings a centralponent of the Impeachment Inquiry. To date, there is no evidence that the president personally received any money. Also, the government shuts coudown in two days. I want to talk about the speech today. Its not that i have any disrespect for the Impeachment Process or inquiry or whatever they are going through down there. I think the speech is important. A lot of people made a speak up in the leadup to the midterms and biden did speeches and people said this doesnt land, no one cares about this. Exit poll after exit poll said the exact opposite which drove the overperforms. Right. They noticed that, too. The white house. I mean, they believed that that speech had a lot to do with setting the tone for the midterms. And i think at this point when there is so much handwringing and Teeth Gnashing among democrats about the president and his prospects. This is an attempt to reset the stakes of the election. And its smart in that i dont think continually asking for a report card in an environment in which people are very sour about the direction of the country is going to help him. But raising the stakes about the choice and what the what the election is about and really putting the onus on trump is something that may. I think democracy, the thing is, is people follow leaders. I know we have kind of gotten away from that, this idea that leaders can actually lead people. By standing up and talking about the state of democracy, the importance, that is partially setting the table for whats gonna happen. I think its important for leaders to be very clear about the challenges we are facing. Its important for leaders to paint a clear vision because im gonna tell you what. Donald trump is going to use anger, dark arts of leadership, of influencing. We need somebody to show a path to the future and a vision for the future, and i think thats essential just for the survival of democracy. It will be interesting to see how this speech actually compares to that speech, like what language he will use, rights, roe v. Wade, et cetera, because during the midterms you had multiple people running for Secretary Of State who were talking about various ways they were going to deal with election fraud. People who were very much pushing kind of the election lie of fraud in the last election. People were hearing this in commercials. They were seeing it on the ballot. And i think that that made for an atmosphere where he could step in and say, whoa, whoa, whoa, this is as weird as you think. Lets not do this. Now he is doing it in a different environment and im curious to see, like, what their approach is going to be. Yeah. The biggest example of that . When you have a little army of accolades going around saying the same thing and saying we are going to spread this ideology and have our hand on the ballot mechanism. I think people saw that as a real threat Jt The Trooutz is, if you look at what donald trump has done and stands accused of in court and what he says, including what he said about general milley in just the last week, he is a trump 2. 0 would be the Delta Variant of democracy. 1,000 times more virulent than the first round, and will he Say Something that would bait trump in a way that would be problematic for his court cases because he has ln told by judges dont say x, y and z. Maybe this will draw him out to have that conversation. The thing that concerns me and should concern them and anybody who cares about this is the word democracy has become sort of trivialized. Its lost its meaning, i think. Its been bandied about so much to voters. I think its important to be very specific about what that means and to talk about not just what trump has done, but what he says he will do because, as we know, other than Building Walls and stuff, when he says particularly on the vengeance front, he going to do something, he does it. Final thought . Well, i just think i mean, its so true. I think democracy is trivialized. I think we have to kind of recage the seriousness of this moment. Unfortunately, we are stuck in the day to day to see whats at stake. Thank you. Ahead, our david culver showing us firsthand the journey that some migrants are making on their way to the United States. And in case you missed it, Secretary Of State Antony Blinken was singing the blues on wednesday, literally. Everybody knows i am yes, that was the Secretary Of State performing at a launch event for new initiative to use music as a diplomatic tool. He joked, if this doesnt clear the house, i dont know what will. Stay with us. Hes inviting the president s of ten nations to discuss this unprecedented spike not only in the United States but also in his own countrys Southern Border with guatemala. U. S. Officials say theyre working to cut down numbers significantly. As david culver reports from mexico where hes been following a group of migrants. Reporter were here in Southern Mexico and walking with a group of migrants. We met this group in guatemala. And they have been making the trek for about 18 days. Theyre originally from venezuela, a couple of families and others who have come together and gotten to know each other along the way. The reason were walking right now with them, some of them are trying to hurry up, theyre trying to go around a migration checkpoint. They were picked up on the river bank on the mexico side and taken in a van, they, of course, had to pay. And brought to just before the checkpoint. Thats when they were all unloaded. You can see thats where these folks are walking behind high grass and theyre finding their way to catch up with that same van but on the other side of the checkpoint. We should point out, were able to go around it because we can choose any route we are here legally. They are not in mexico legally. They have not entered any country since leaving venezuela legally. Their hope like everyone else, to get to the u. S. This shows you what is normally an hour drive and whats going to be a whole day for them turns out to be. That is david culver on mexicos Southern Border. Thank you for that reporting.
